I just laughed at her and walked off (not paying the bill) and let her sort out the bill on the till.

Did shake a little after I was out the store, but felt quite proud of myself.

Perhaps she should speak to the lovely CS people at Asda Brighton Marina....they accept all and every coupon (as long as valid, in date and not those with Asda or other store-specific logo of course).

I rarely go there but last week I did and checked with CS first (as I couldn't believe my luck last time I went) and she happily nodded and said 'yes we'll take them all'. And the girl at the till was lovely, even though she had to write her till number on each coupon AND she was about to go to lunch.

So if anyone (as coupon-mad as me) is in Sussex, Asda Brighton Marina is your shop! And it has self scan but you don't need it when their policy is so good (funnily enough the other nearby Asda, Hollingbury, are miserable old jobsworths about coupons so they haven't seen me for dust!).

Asda Corby has 4 and takes coupons no problem. Only issue is the coupon slot which has a sensor for the coupon when it slides down, they seem to get stuck and you have to blow the coupon in! Otherwise you can't complete your shop.

Asda Wakefield has the coupon slots taped up on its slef scan tills. There is a note over them saying that you must contact a member of staff if you wish to use coupons

My local asda actually had them installed the other week - and the guy watching over them says 'Sorry No Coupons On Self Scan'

    Typical!

Blimey how annoying must that be! Once I went to my local WHSmith in the Ilford Exchange to redeem a sim card offer via a coupon I found in a metro, and they said I had to go to a bigger one, really! That store was two floors, how big is the superstore, seven floors!

:wall:  I can see what you mean by how you cannot redeem coupons, can't you just scan them?

Yes you can scan them, but you can't scan the next item or pay of the goods as the machine waits for the coupon to be detected falling down the coupon slot.

If you scan the coupon you just get left with a screen that says 'please insert the coupon in the slot provided' - and of course you can't as it has a notice on it saying to contact a member of staff.

Hi and welcome to MSE! You asked for it...so here goes: :j

The coupons we are talking about are any money-off coupons (e.g. '40p off Princes salmon'...or anything...because the point is you don't have to buy the Princes salmon!).

To start you off this week, by Wednesday go and buy a copy of this week's Best magazine first. There's a couple of coupons in there to start you off, although one of them says Sainsbury's only (it may well scan anyway at Tesco or Asda but you may not feel confident enough to bluff that yet? I would though, in with other coupons!!).

Any hoo, once you've bought your magazine, carefully cut/tear out the other two coupons, pop them in your pocket and when you pay for some shopping at the supermarket ask 'can you scan any coupons for me please?'. The worst they can say is 'no' (in which case don't push it and try another cashier next time, or another store).

If you are polite they should be too, and bear in mind that the Head Offices of Asda, Tesco and Waitrose have a confirmed, official policy to accept coupons without buying the product. So you are not asking the earth to enquire if your local store accepts them (most will take a few IME). Don't bother with Co-op, Sainsbury's, Morrisons or anywhere else though.

Then start hunting out other coupons by reading threads on the Discount Codes & Vouchers board, maybe print off some printable ones (some stores accept these). To find them just do a chat forum search (above) for keywords like 'printable coupons', 'vouchers' 'coupon' etc.

Finally, get into the habit EVERY DAY of reading the Newspaper Coupon thread posted each day on this board. Read it around lunchtime to check if anyone has found any good coupons in a Newspaper - if they have, and the coupons are worth more than the paper, then go and buy several copies!

Did something similar after a big strop at ASDA, put my coupons... they stop the shopping, they removed all my coupons from the bill so I said... fine... not a problem... good bye. - Rambler: i also shaked a little;)
