You must be judging me by your own standards.

No it is guilty conscience. I've got a huge bungalow with a 30 degree southerly facing roof slope and no overhanging trees.

Ah to be a farmer at last, farming the sunlight and being subsidised by the rest of you.
I think I will pour out another glass of champagne, cheers my friend.
    Many thanks

    On a more serious point.

I'm aware of a study done on an "impoverished" community, living in fuel poverty, where everyone got a subsidy and some got the job done virtually free. As a control there are some properties where buy to let landlords turned down the subsidy and low cost installation.

So far this work has made NO difference to the house prices - in fact the majority of the energy examiners & estate agents do not know what they are trying to sell.

The Conservative Party has confirmed that, if elected, it will reverse the current Government’s decision to treat early adopters of on-site microgeneration schemes less favourably than those installing renewable energy technologies for the first time.

I posted this a few months ago. Strangely, it has slightly changed...

The Conservatives meanwhile promised to increase the maximum size of projects eligible for feed-in tariff payments to 10MW to encourage communities to invest in, and benefit from, renewable energy.
They also pledged to reverse the current situation where those pioneers who have already installed renewable electricity systems are excluded from the full tariff payments, giving owners the option of repaying any original grants in return for inclusion in the FiT scheme.

Unlikely to get anyone from Tories to confirm/deny this anytime soon - they'll still be celebrating their secret weapon in Rochdale for the next ten days/years

I've noticed that Tesco are now offering renewable energy technologies through their Home Efficiency Service (tescohomeefficiency.com) such as solar electricity and solar hot water systems. I had my insulation installed through them, which was very easy and hassle-free so I am now considering investing in something that can not only save me money but also make me money with this new FIT that is available. They say that I could earn £764 in the first year if I install a system on my 2-bed house! - And that's excluding savings on any electric bills! It's certainly a long-term investement but what an incentive for making it! :)

If anyone is interested, Tesco explain what could seem a very complicated idea, all very simply in their 'understanding feed-in-tariffs guide' :)

I contacted Tesco about 3 weeks ago and just received a letter saying I would be contacted by somebody from 'the mark group' shortly as they are handling installations for tesco.
I also contacted my local council to confirm I wouldn't need planning for any proposed solar pv install and the cheeky beggars want £60 to answer my query  Money grabbing sodz.

That doesn't sound right - that your local council should request money for just asking the question. Did they say what the money would be used for? Perhaps they had to perform a land search or something?!

The Mark Group are handling Tesco and e.on installation surveys. Both of them have proved hopelessly slow and inefficient so far, and I'm still waiting for quotations several weeks on.

A local contractor, however, gave me a detailed and very well thought out quotation more than a month ago. They will, as a result, get the business, and on the strength of my experience with Tesco and e.on I'll avoid them both - for this, and for anything else they decide they want to dabble in without thinking it through properly.

I wont name and shame my local council as it'd be pretty easy for them to work out who I am given the nature of the request but to quote their letter 'please submit £60 which is the appropriate fee for this type of enquiry.' The letter then goes on to warn that there could be 'legal consequences' to carrying on without planning permission. More or less legal blackmail really.
With regards Tesco not being the quickest for installation I'd rather take my chances on them still being around for the duration of any guarantee period than some local independent that may do a 'phoenix' when problems arise in the future leaving their old customers high and dry.

I agree - I would also hedge my bets on Tesco still being around to honour quality guarentees when an independent might not. While Tesco will be able to withstand any future turbulence like that experienced in recent times, an independent may unfortunately not be able to. I think I would still rather wait a little longer for something that could in the long term be more beneficial - this is a long term investment after all! Am also thinking about those 20,000 clubcard points!...(Something I wouldn't get with my local installer!)

This indeed is the biggest potential problem with the current legislation.

A pal of mine had a very expensive dampcourse treatment that had a 'lifetime guarantee'.

After a couple of years it was apparent that the treatment hadn't worked, but the firm had ceased trading. However another firm had started up with almost an identical name, same premises, personnel vans etc. He tried to pursue this through Trading Standards and found that they had carried out a similar name change at least twice.

If you check some of the Solar firms operating from the Poole/Bournemouth area you will find that firms spring up from the ashes of other solar firms that have ceased trading.
