Water overcharge-10 years

I have been wrongly charged sewerage charges for the last 10 years by my water company. They found this themselves during an audit and are refunding the charges paid which amount to around £600.
However, just wondering that if I had underpaid them for 10 years they would no doubt hit me with late payment charges/interest, etc. Am I therefore entitled to anything on top of the refund and under what basis or shall I just be happy with the refund?

I watched a programme last year about water companies charging for ground water when they shouldnt have been not sure if yours is the same thing but the programme stated that the companies are only oblige to reimburse 12 months worth of over payments and cannot be forced to pay any more leaving many people hundreds if not thousands out of pocket. If they are offering the full 10yrs i personally would take it and make no further fuss but the it is up to you and i can see where you are coming from :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -
The OP is getting sewage charges back not surface water which can only go back 12 months.0

Thanks for replies, all in all I will just be thankful for what I have.0

I'm curious, how does one avoid sewerage charges? do you have to have some kind of other disposal system 'on site' ?0

Did you say 'on site' or was that a typo' :rotfl::rotfl:make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Response to your earlier query, its because the drainage discharges directly via a non adopted storm drain. Don't ask me what this means though other than lower charges.0

Not sewerage then ? Surface water drainage goes into storm drains which does only go back to the first year of the claim.
Sewerage ( the foul stuff) goes to a treatment plant or facility unless there is a septic tank or other fitted.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

I agree.
You have to claim relief from the Surface Water Drainage(SWD) charge and no company backdates it past the first year of the claim - with ofwat's specific approval for that policy.
However the OP is getting back £600 for 10 years, and he didn't make a claim - the company discovered their error!!
Something is not correct here - in that it surely cannot be SWD.0
