For example books (Seems to be the one most often complained about)
Say that it is decided that maximium postage for books would be £1 for example (single paperback)
What if someone was selling an entire collection of paperbacks by an author (have just bought similar myself) 9xpaperbacks but max postage is £1?
So max postage for books is set higher, say £6
What now stops the single paperback seller charging £6 postage?
See what I mean? Not saying I agree or disagree (I actually am completely against the enforced free p&p) just playing Devils Advocate.
But obviously if one person "overcharged" for delivery then its up to the buyer to realise this and make the decisionlet he without sin cast the first stone0 -
So - I wonder what ebay will do to recoup the revenue losses from "free" P&P?
Be careful what you wish for and all that?<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Reading more on this, it seems that many people are overlooking the introduction in postal caps in categories that have previously had no limits.
I guess eBay are reckoning on the increased fees from sales where the deficit has been added to the starting or BIN price.
Once again, eBay succeed in promoting the positives, and brushing over the negatives.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Just received this e-mail, should be of great interest considering the amount of posts regarding the free postage enforcement issue (especially on book).
In 2009 a mandatory free Postage & Packaging (P&P) policy
was introduced in categories where excessive postage
charges were a problem. Although buyers have responded
positively, some sellers indicated this is having a negative
impact on their listings and asked for alternative options
to prevent excessive postage. This is especially when listing in the auction style format with a low starting price.
Therefore, to help drive further sales, the existing free P&P policy will be removed and replaced with maximum limits to Postage & Packaging charges from 8 February 2010.
Buyers continue to respond positively to free Postage & Packaging. Sellers who offer it on their fixed price listings will continue to receive a boost in search results.

about time. stopped me doing a lot of business with them.
they haven't really allowed for any postage of say, books and heavy mags - or as a previous poster said, dvds/videos, to include the extra 75p for registered mail. still, it's a positive step.0 -

That's fine by me as I don't use recorded, which incidentally is no longer 'registered' and is 75p and absolutely useless. You'd also be going some to need more than £2.75 for a magazine, but no doubt we will be back to the old issue of people charging that 'because they can'.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. A think a lot of sellers who do this will get a shock when there DSRs are slammed. Now that ebay have made them tougher for seller standards its going to have a far bigger effect on some sellers. If sellers look like they are charging the full capped price ' because they can' they are going to get hit as buyers aren't stupid.
Also from reading on the community boards I think there will be a high proportion who will stick with Free P&P especially considering the discounts ebay are offering.0 -
I don't know why people are blaming Ebay though. It's the greedy sellers overcharging for postage who are to blame. What is the best way for Ebay to stop that happening without penalising honest sellers?0

I'm wondering what to do when compulsory P & P stops next week. I sell my old magazines on ebay. For the past year I've been selling Smash Hits and Number Ones. I used to sell the actual magazine at 95p and charge £1.99 postage for UK, £2.50 for Europe, £3.20 for rest of world. I also gave postage discounts for multiple purchases. It actually worked out cheaper for the buyer. Since P & P has been free, I've been selling them all at one price of £2.50. I've had mixed success. I've had a good January, but November & December were quiet. Beforehand, I used to sell a lot in bulk - and had more clients from overseas. I wonder what to do now. Any advice?Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW Member 1205!LBM Aug 2006 - Debt £35K. Debt: JAN 2020: £0!!
