No more compulsory FREE P&P on eBay!! :-D

This is really weird as I was thinking just the other day that eBay really should make FREE P&P an option, not a must, to give both buyers and sellers more choices - free P&P is attractive but when an item's P&P is £8 odd it isn't always feasible!

Finally, well done eBay!

So gone will be the threads why cant I charge postage and instead we'll have have why can't I charge more than X amount for postage!

I think they went back on it as it was impossible to police. personally I'll stick with Free P&P on my BIN as my sales went up

Likewise - it doesn't make that big a difference to the FVF and listing fees, especially when you get higher in the search rankings. I sell in categories that are not yet free/limited and it has worked in my favour. I only add postage when it may be a particularly heavy item and postage likely to be quite high and would significantly affect listing fees/FVF.

I'm glad to see they are imposing limits in all clothing categories from March too as quite often then you find 99p shoes with £29.99 postage!

Here's to the new threads on inability to add the correct amount of postage!!
  • For CDs/DVDs, the limit is £1. I may keep with the free for the minute & see how it goes after a month. The advantage of charging for P&P is I could now offer a discount on multiple purchases.
  • How will 'Maximum postage' work though?

For example books (Seems to be the one most often complained about)

Say that it is decided that maximium postage for books would be £1 for example (single paperback)
What if someone was selling an entire collection of paperbacks by an author (have just bought similar myself) 9xpaperbacks but max postage is £1?
So max postage for books is set higher, say £6
What now stops the single paperback seller charging £6 postage?

See what I mean? Not saying I agree or disagree (I actually am completely against the enforced free p&p) just playing Devils Advocate.
When you're going through hell, keep going! You will get to the other side eventually.

Falling down is NOT failure, failure is not getting up again!

(Two quotes I was given which helped me through the 'dark times')

Blimey, ebay can post a DVD recorded delivery (as required by Paypal) for a £1

    Must get some of that.

It's not required..... just advised. ;)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

Does this only affect current "free P&P" categories, or is it being pushed out to all categories?

ETA: Sorry, being lazy. I see it only (at the moment) affect the "free P&P" categories. No impact for me yet.
