I think in simple terms 9700 has 3g and has a better camera.

I currently looking at getting a curve 8520 on payg (orange) but am very tempted by the bold 9700. Its alot more money for what i see little extra though!!

I have just got a blackberry curve 8520 from Tesco, on Vodafone, £25 per month, includes unlimited texts, 300 minutes, unlimited internet/email, free vodafone passport, and £50 cash back... also a free phone!

Really pleased with it, i would really recommend.. BB - way forward!!!

im having the same debate.
i have the bold 9000 at the moment and i LOVE it, my upgrade is due in March, i was happily going to get the 9700, but they are bringing out the curve in purple and now thats tempting me. (im sure however this wont tempt guys lol)

8520 is ok, not really comparable to 9700 to be honest. The screen is of a lower quality - very noticable too. The design is ok, the phone weighs a lot less. No 3G, not a great camera but who uses a cam on a blackberry anyway? i havent used mine yet... umm a few apps wont be on the 8520 (such as the built in file manager that you can find on the 9700), and obviously there no case with the 8520 and the back is a fingerprint magnet.

performance-wise, its still a blackberry, and does what you can expect a blackberry to do, and well.

Just curious to know why you didnt go with Orange? £15/month, Panther 25, 400 mins, unltd txt, unltd net/email, magic numbers, free phone (8520)...

I personally would go for the Bold 9700. I have the Curve 8900 at the moment and going to buy the 9700 and when my contract is due for renewal I'm going to O2 simplicity for £20pm. 1200 texts (which I won't use) 600 mins and BlackBerry Unlimited UK, use email more than texts!! With O2 at the moment and don't want the aggro of changing.

Newtothisthing:: This is what you do: Get an Orange pay as you go sim card. Activate it, etc. Call up orange from that number and tell them you want to change your PAYG card for a contract. They'll switch you over to the sales team who will probably offer you a £5 discount (on reques in addition to the £5 discount you'd get online). So Panther 30 would be £20, Panther 25 would be £15, and so on... thats how you get it. Panther 25 only available on 24 months. Panther 30 can be 18 or 24. 18m would come with 300 texts. ALL 24 month contracts on Panther have unlimted text.

Cashbackproblems:: you can also do the above. Also, a strategy that worked for me, is pricematching. When you're speaking with the sales team ask them to pricematch someone. For example this: http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/buy/BLACKBERRY-BOLD-9700-P40BT-C1024 - they'll "check with their manager" as usual and tell you they can do it. Always push for more
