ok I'm one of those sad people with too much time on her hands who makes her own puff pastry
My daughter makes Topped tarts with leftover pastry, whatever it is.
Roll it out, use a cutter, cut out circles top with whatever you fancy!
Cheese, ham & tomato is good or fruit (frozen & defrosted stuff then top with icing sugar or serve with ice cream).
You could bake anything till it's cooked through but not brown (lower oven), cool & refreeze.LBM:FEB 2008

I buy pre made puff and filo.. I simply dont have time, and its perfect every time so I dont have to worry just like so many restaurants in the country! I make short crust as its easy also stuff like crumble tops, but puff pastry just buy it! It works out the same for me when I calculate time into it!
I got a tip on here to use the off cuts (forgive me I forget who posted - but it was to do with christmas nibbles and using the off cuts which I now do!)
I use anythign and everything to fill / top / cover them literally. Look what you have left and play around / experiment / freeze! Remember, even if pre frozen, once you cook it you can re freeze it, so worst case scenario, make some pie "lids" and freeze them, they then take minutes in the oven from frozen to reheat. I make alot of goats cheese tomato and red onion tarts, you can use jam tart tins, nothing fancy - quiches using what i have, again check your fridge and see what you need to use up and add an egg mixed with milk if needed! sausage rolls are easy, as are again any mince or meat products, mix it, season it and wrap it in pastry! call it wellington and it works!
Good job on buying it and have fun with experimenting - dont be scared

A friend once served a Nigel Slater recipe of puff pastry parcels with pesto, sliced tomatoes and feta cheese. Really delicious! I think any kind of cheese would be good like that0

My son made these sausage wraps in school, they taste amazing and really easy to make.
Cut puff pastry into squares. Spread centre with cream cheese, i.e. philadelphia, fill the centre (in a line diagonally) with sliced spring onion, sliced mushrooms and ham or bacon, bung an already cooked sausage on the top then wrap the pastry over, brush with egg wash - cook in moderate oven for about 15-20 mins.0 -
Hello all
We returned from our hols yesterday to find the main fuse had tripped and our freezers were partially defrosted. We think they had been off for about 12 hours.
Aaaanyway. I've used up what I can, binned a lot:(:(:(, made a heap of jam from all our carefully stashed for the winter frozen fruit :mad: and now just have 3 blocks of puff pastry left that I lobbed in the fridge last night when it all got too much and a chicken I'm going to cook for dinner.
I was wondering if you have any ideas for stuff I can make with the pastry and cook so that I can freeze it again?
I came back from hols needing to diet and I don't think eating all that in some format or other today will do my waistline any favours!
Thank yooooooou!:eek:0 -
Oh Dizzy - that is awful! Been there though except it has been off for 3 weeks!! It absolutely stank!
How about making some pies? they can been cooked then frozen again. Or some jam tarts? (you can start your diet tomorrow?)Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Bake the pastry for mille feuilles or custard slices and feeze it again, or as toppings for dish pies, just cust it to the size of your casserole/pie dish and bake with just a milk glazing, and then when reheating reglaze with egg or milk? It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I've photo'd it all and listed it all so hoping to get some vouchers from our home insurance but there's still a £100 excessBake the pastry for mille feuilles or custard slices and feeze it again, or as toppings for dish pies, just cust it to the size of your casserole/pie dish and bake with just a milk glazing, and then when reheating reglaze with egg or milk?
If I do that, make some sausage rolls for lunch and some jam tart type things for afterwards, that should get rid of most of it!:eek:0 -
oh no you poor thing!
I'd siggest some chicken sausage rolls
blitz up equivalent chicken to 2 x breasts
handful of basil
clove of garlic
handful of sundried toms
roll out pastry and I usually to 2 lines on a block of pastry of the mix,cut down the centre roll and brush with egg and sesame seeds
bake for 25 mins approx on 200c
they freeze really well0 -
