Apple iMac discounts

  • There are cashback sites - which offer around 3% of the purcahse value but you need to register and "click through" to the web store via the cash back sites e.g TopCashBack. They usually make the money from the "referal" fee or advertising which they pass on to you. It's better than nothing if you have no other discount options.
  • As a previous poster suggested to ask a HE student to purchase the iMac for you. Otherwise do you or anybody you know get the Apple EPP discount as that is around a 13% saving - I think it may be less than FE discount. Not sure sorry.

I would strongly recomend that you enqure about AppleCare, as it will cover the whole iMac, world wide for three years.....Just think how much it would cost to replace the iMac screen! (Yup happend to a friend)

You don't even need the student to purchase the MAC for you as all they need to do is flash their credentials and you can pay.

Try the following, hang outside your local UNI and if you see a thin weathered student who looks down on his luck just walk up to him wink and say "how would you like to earn yourself £20" ;p

As of writing, there's a 24-inch iMac in the Apple Refurb Store with 32% off.

Just to add to the earlier comment about the trouble 27 inch model, Apple have once again suspended its manufacture - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02/01/more_27_inch_imac_troubles/
  • Thanks shopbot/BikerEd - quite pleased that I got the Mac mini now (still making my transition from PC to Mac). The main reason I didn't want to spend an extra £200-500 for the iMac was because I was wondering what to do if the screen broke? I can replace things like hard drives, memory etc, but if the screen is broken, you have to fix/replace/transplant the whole unit pretty much.

So you would never buy a laptop? ;)

    Hahaha :p I have 2 laptops.

Interesting point though. I think it's also the configurability that I like about "desktops" which isn't as easy with laptops/all-in-one desktops; if that makes any sense.

Back on topic: I got my Mac mini from Dixons because it was on sale (also got cashback on the sale amount) and better than the student discount from Apple. Sometimes, the sales are better than any discount schemes so worth a search on google in case any retailer happens to be offering heavily discounted items already.

Is your son is not at Uni, do you know anybody who is at uni as you get a 17% discount plus cheaper apple care. I got my MacBook with 17% off and apple care for £49 for three years. However i am not certain if the price for a iMac will be higher.

do you know how much the base macbook pro 13" £918 would be with current higher education discount?

i thought all higher education came with free 3 year warranty anyway?

    Around £760 I believe.

They come with a three year parts and labour warranty, not AppleCare.
