Apple iMac discounts

Options
My son wants an iMac and has seen the one he wants. Apple do a student discount but it doesn't appear to be very much, does anyone have any ideas as to how to get the best iMac deal? Are there discount vouchers available?

This is the machine he is after. It is £1378 in the Apple Store and £1294 after the Student discount is applied via the Apple website.

The only good Apple deals are in the Refurb section of the Apple Store. Your link doesn't work for me, but it seems to be a 27 inch iMac you were linking to. I can't see one in the Refurb store at the moment, but stock changes daily. Keep checking, and you will eventually get one cheaper.

I've been thinking about gettting a 27" iMac but have put that on hold until the reported screen issues are resolved. You may want to do some googling before buying:

I realise all products have faults but at the moment the issues don't seem to be resolved by the replacement units.
  • Is your son is not at Uni, do you know anybody who is at uni as you get a 17% discount plus cheaper apple care. I got my MacBook with 17% off and apple care for £49 for three years. However i am not certain if the price for a iMac will be higher.

My son is disabled and at a specialist college. I will call and ask Apple tomorrow if he is entitled to the 17% discount. Thanks.

The university discount is only for higher education, a college is more likely to be counted as further education. If the college is a member of the crescent purchasing consortium then he would be able to get the further education discount, which isn't quite as good as the HE discount but is still well worth having. The college's IT department will know if they are eligible for the FE discount.

Regretably, neither my son's current school or future specialist college are in the consortium and on the list. He will only get the basic student discount, which is disappointing.

Any other ways of getting round this, or getting discounts from other ways?

Do you know anyone who is at Uni as you could ask them to go to the store with their ID to get the discount. It might cost you the price of a decent lunch.
