Very dry skin on the face.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good moisturiser for very dry skin on my face, maybe also a foundation as well.

Thanks in advance.x

If money is no object, Clinique Moisture Surge is definitely the way forward. If you have really dry skin, you will feel much more comfortable straight away and that feeling of relief will last.

If you're on a budget, try Simple. The initial feeling of relief when you apply it won't last as long, but it's still a good (cheaper!) product.

Both products will show results given enough regular usage, but the Clinique one will make your skin feel better more quickly. It really depends on how dry your skin is, as to whether you think you can justify splashing out on the £40 pot or the under a fiver alternative.

    Hth. :)

Also do you drink loads of water....it is a 'free' way to make a massive difference to your skin, as well as making sure you have a healthy diet, with a moderate amount of healthy fats.....working from the inside out, so to speak!

Dramatically different is a good basic moisturiser for anyone - moisture surge is for people who really need a bit of extra help. It feels lighter on than dramatically different. The way I would explain it, is it feels like when you put water on your face, except water eventually dries out and your skin doesn't feel any better than it did before. With moisture surge, it feels like that water is still there. It's very hydrating.

I've seen it as a bonus time gift before, so if you want to give it a try and can't get hold of any free samples, you could probably buy a wee pot off ebay (not the full size) for about a fiver. Alternatively, you could probably try your luck with one of those counter assistants in Boots or similar. I think you'd be able to tell after just one wee try whether you'd get on with it or not.

I would agree with the other comment - making sure you're drinking enough water can help.

Not sure if I can recommend a better product than what you're currently using for less money though!

I like Liz Earle products and use the 'light' moisturiser which is more than rich enough for me! And I only use pure mineral make up - as in Elemental Beauty, it keeps my skin balanced.

At night I use a high allantoin rich comfrey ointment which is greasy - but good, useless for day time use!

Try using the oil cleansing method - read the thread here

I now only use this to both cleanse and moisturise and no longer buy any expensive stuff which is just mostly water.

Have a read and then have a go.

I agree, but a modified version as your skin won't need the castor oil element. I just cleanse with almond oil and rinse with a water. It's well worth trying for a couple of weeks, if you use commercial cleansers atm. Highly recommended for a variety of reasons by many posters on this board!

Hiya, i suffer dry skin and dry eyes (medical issue) and i drink lots of herbal tea/water, take an omega 3+6+9 oil capsule and i have recently changed my moisturizer to organic shea butter which is brill and have had no dryness in fact gives me a nice youthful sheen, i got mine for £4.99 and a little really does go a long way and its all natural :)

As for makeup i use minerals id foundation of which i have never had a problem with my dry skin it even seems to help....never had any flakiness like with liquid foundations but it is pricey, but again a little goes a long way ;) x
  • I have sensitive and often have dry skin, I have found that using virgin vie clenser, toner, day and night cream and their moisture treatment has helped greatly, also the Hemp face protector from the body shop its good too

Liz Earle moisturisers are lovely and a bit more natural than most. They do a nice facial oil in a roller ball size too, full of essential oils and argan oil whatever that is.
I give myself a facial in the bath with almond oil or Clarins Lotus Oil, massaging it in, then get some cotton pads and gently rub the oil off to give a bit of exfoliation as well.
It works even better if you can steam your face with some hot water once the oil is on before taking it off. I then wash any residue off with Neals Yard rose facial wash.
Vitamin E tablets or a spoon of olive oil a day can be good for dry skin.
I used acqueous cream (one without the creosote type chemical or sls in, check the label, naturecare do a good one) as a moisturiser for years. A friend told me about it as her doctor had recommended it to her as a facial wash for her dry skin.
It's really cheap too, as is almond oil comparitively!
