Coverbox PAYG insurance

After 5 weeks of all going fine they wanted an extra £50 for a conviction on my fathers license. This had expired in the laws eyes but not in their eyes.
Points / convictions can be removed from licences after 4 years but have to be declared to insurers for 5 years. That is the law (Rehabilitation of Offenders Act) and all insurers work the same way.
You post sounds like you were getting your father to insure a car and add you as a named driver (you refer to your fathers' 9 years NCD which clearly you could not have built up yourself). If you were actually the main driver this is called "fronting" and is illegal, and could result in the insurers chasing you for their costs if you have an accident. Sorry if I've misunderstood but though best to warn you.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Seems Coverbox should be avoided. Shouldn't they be removed as an option from the article on the main Money Saving site.

To be fair those comments are all 6-12 months ago so not the most recent experience, especially for a new company. Never had any dealings with them either professionally or in a personal capacity so can't comment from experience.0 -
I over-estimated my mileage significantly. I guessed 8000 pa and then after 8 months I got a letter from Coverbox telling me that based on usage my mileage estimate will be reduced to 3066. However, the refund that they are promising is only 25% of what I paid despite the mileage being reduced by 60%.
The other, and far more frustrating, issue is that they promised the refund in 14 days, and 2 months later I am still waiting. I have called about 10 times and get the same response; it is with the manager and we will call you back. They never do!!! I believe that I am going to have to take action to get my money back, and I will never use them again.0 -
I would not recommend this company to anyone. Their customer service record is awful, having cancelled my insurance with no warning and no reason they have breached FSA rules by not responding to my complaint. It is impossible to speak to anyone apart from the agent who answers the phone and they have no authority to make decisions or respond to complaints. Requests to speak to a manager are always met with "they are not here " and promises for a manager to call me back never happen. BDML who, according to the website and keyfacts document, administer the policy, will not accept responsibility for the complaint and simply pass me back to coverbox . Cover might be cheaper but in future I would rather pay more and deal with a decent company to whom customer service matters. It clearly does not with coverbox. This is certainly a case of you get what you pay for. The Financial Services Ombudsman is now investigating my complaint0

Ok so thought I would try out Coverbox PAYG insurance, here is my experience;
First off they took about 3 weeks to send me the documents which I had to chase them for after 2 weeks.
They cancelled the tracker fitting twice which is no big deal but you have to consider that if you miss the fitting for any reason you will have to pay about £80.
Finaly there was a problem with the direct debit, they sent a letter by first class post which was misplaced by my wife. The next letter they sent was a cancellation letter to which I responded immediately. They explained that my policy had been cancelled and that this was terminal and I couldnt get it back up and running. I was absolutely fuming after paying almost 50% of the premium upfront and they also now want a £80 cancellation fee. So I paid about 68% of the policy and got all of 2 months cover off them, unbelievable.
This is motor insurance and to not have insurance is a serious offence yet they think that sending one first class letter through the post is enough communication to warrant cancelling your policy. I really feel like I have been scammed by these guys.
I have had a direct debit problem with previous insurers before and they sent me a letter by recorded delivery to tell me what i needed to do.
You would think that after going through all the setup and tracker install they would at least try and communicate with you by email or over the phone or at least send a recorded letter if there was a major problem and your insurance was about to be cancelled. My advice is to not go near this company, they are amateur and have a lot to learn.
I'm still seething about this, ruined my month. High price to pay for missing one letter they sent me.
I've just had exactly the same experience. Turns out I missed a D/D in September. The credit firm they use to manage their payments system didn't tell me about this and I missed it. BDML sent me a letter two weeks ago - which I didn't get - and now I find (via email) that the insurance is cancelled through non payment and can't be re-instated. I'm furious for many reasons - no attempt to get in touch with me so I could rectify the non-payment in a timely way: some shadowy relationship between credit and insurance that is neither clear nor transparent when you take out insurance: a bill for non-payment; left without insurance at short notice and a flat refusal to reinstate.... Please investigate, Martin, and tell us what is really going on here.0 -

So let's just get this straight. You're hopping mad because you bounced a DD on them?
I love the "Turns out I missed a D/D in September" line - so you didn't get notified by your bank or charged for it then?
It kind of makes your claim that you didn't receive the letter less believable as well - you didn't notice that you hadn't paid, your bank didn't tell you, you didn't notice any charges, you didn't receive a letter etc
What is it with people now? It's always someone elses fault.
You didn't pay - they cancelled. Get over it.All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
Just got the following email from Coverbox:
Notice of Cancellation – Motor Insurance Policy – Registration Mark *******
Following information we have received, there is a discrepancy on your insurance policy. As this conflicts with the records we hold you no longer fit the criteria for the policy that has been issued.
In these circumstances, we must give you notice of cancellation in accordance with the terms of your policy.
Everything on the policy is 100% accurate, I've sent all the documents and have always paid my DD. Anyone have any idea what this could mean?!!0 -
An update to my proceedings. Following my renewal last year I did eventually get a significant credit onto my past year's premium which bought the renewal into very competitive territory. I spoke to a customer service manager at Coverbox (eventually) after sending multiple emails and a written letter of complaint.
All was well until I received my renewal this year, this morning in fact. I have been sent 3 separate letters, one of which is my insurance renewal which says £611.51 and the other two are from a company called 'Premium Credit Ltd' with accompanying Coverbox letter-headed statements advising this company is now in charge of administering credit and Direct Debit arrangements on behalf of Coverbox.
This is confusing to say the least. I get my insurance administered by Coverbox who are a trading style of Wunelli/BDML, the policy is underwritten by Co-operative insurance and the payments administered by Premium Credit Ltd through which I have to have a separate account.
To make things worse I was predicted to drive 4760 miles this past year, I have actually driven 3870 miles. The renewal says I have driven the estimated number of miles and so I the payments were correct. WRONG - the tracking device tracks with an accuracy of ~1 mile, so I reckon that's a good 890 miles I've not driven which is quite a high percentage of my overall policy miles.
I phoned them to discuss this and was told that it would be looked into. I said this exactly what happened last year save for the fact that last year I'd driven fewer miles and was offered a completely pants refund of a few quid and was told it wouldn't happen again.
What's more, the credit agreement from this new company is very confusingly worded - it states my monthly payments but advises a 'total amount payable' of over £1600 which this bloke on the phone said was the overall credit limit of the agreement and not what I'd have to pay and that apparently a number of customers have been confused by the wording. Well, if people are getting confused by the wording, the smart thing to do is to change it surely?
I am not especially wowed by this renewal price - £559.48 to cover me for 3800 miles? I can get fully comp insurance with the same level of cover for around £500 and that's based on up to 6000 miles. The man said that while this was being looked at I could look over the direct debit agreement, sign it and then return it! I told him that until Coverbox get back to me about my discount I'll be signing nothing and will be leaving them unless they give me a fair discount and do this quickly, not like last time.
They are a nightmare to deal with when it comes to renewal. They never seem to have a straight answer about anything whatsoever. I am also miffed that the insurance is well over £100 more expensive this year despite me being insured to drive fewer miles. Though I suppose that is more a complaint towards the insurance industry as a whole because they're a bunch of robbing so and so's. I know I'm only 25 but come on, I've never had an accident, I've never claimed on any insurance, I'm a good driver who's had my license since '04 and have 7 years no claims and I'm still being robbed even though I drive a 10 year old 1ltr unmodified Nissan Micra.0
