I've just signed up with Coverbox, and your experience documented was very good to know. Tbh, I noticed all these clauses which aren't on their website per se, but rather when you are asked to tick the boxes agreeing to T&Cs are linked to a PDF document which details all the things you've listed.

I'm really happy with the amount they've quoted me considering that I've overestimated my mileage. It is considerably cheaper than any of the other quotes I've been able to get after trawling well known and never before heard of comparison websites.

    Ok so thought I would try out Coverbox PAYG insurance, here is my experience;

First off they took about 3 weeks to send me the documents which I had to chase them for after 2 weeks.

They cancelled the tracker fitting twice which is no big deal but you have to consider that if you miss the fitting for any reason you will have to pay about £80.

Finaly there was a problem with the direct debit, they sent a letter by first class post which was misplaced by my wife. The next letter they sent was a cancellation letter to which I responded immediately. They explained that my policy had been cancelled and that this was terminal and I couldnt get it back up and running. I was absolutely fuming after paying almost 50% of the premium upfront and they also now want a £80 cancellation fee. So I paid about 68% of the policy and got all of 2 months cover off them, unbelievable.

This is motor insurance and to not have insurance is a serious offence yet they think that sending one first class letter through the post is enough communication to warrant cancelling your policy. I really feel like I have been scammed by these guys.

I have had a direct debit problem with previous insurers before and they sent me a letter by recorded delivery to tell me what i needed to do.

You would think that after going through all the setup and tracker install they would at least try and communicate with you by email or over the phone or at least send a recorded letter if there was a major problem and your insurance was about to be cancelled. My advice is to not go near this company, they are amateur and have a lot to learn.

I'm still seething about this, ruined my month. High price to pay for missing one letter they sent me.

couldn't you just say you didn't get the initial letter?
    • Premium includes £39.00 installaton charge (reasonable, but I'm a fan of transparency)
    • Premium includes annual charge of £24 for theft tracking (not optional)

Sorry, just to confirm - Are the above charges included in the premium or in addition to it?

Also, can you pay in monthly installments at no extra cost? Their website seems to suggest your monthly cost may vary depending on the number of miles you've done.

ok i just had this come up on gocompare and doing some searching
i dont like the reviews im getting so ill probably leave it

edit: or can anyone update on there situation? Have they got better with customer service
  • When I returned from holidays of 2.5 weeks, I have two letters from them one informing me of the premium adjustment (informing me to pay an additional premium for estimated pro-rata mileage) and the other letter cancelling my insurance charging £120 for cancellation fee. Ripped me off completely. When I spoke to them to reinstate my insurance ( as I was ready to pay the hike), they said that they can't do that.
Please watch out with this and do not go anywhere near to them if you want to safeguard your wallets.
Effectively I have paid £300 for 3 months insurance with them.
  • I've had this insurance over a year now and am really pleased with it. I overestimated my mileage at first so after a while they reduced my monthly payments. The cost of this policy is cheaper comprehensive than my previous one which was 3rd party only.

The only time I spoke with customer services was when I added my Husband to the policy and they were fine.

Alright this is with reference to my post a few posts ago.

After explaining to coverbox at the time what a joke it was that they cancelled my insurance via first class post with all the contact details they had available for me they sent me an sms this morning saying I had to urgently contact them about a letter they had sent to me. Now considering that I paid their cancellation fee over 2 weeks ago I rang up to enquire what this was about, the lady I spoke to was apologetic and noted that my account was paid up and closed. I made a verbal complaint about how they had cancelled my insurance by first class post saying that they didnt think other forms of contact were necessary and now send me a auto-generated sms message about my account even though my account had been sorted out a number of weeks ago which she said she would pass onto her manager.

Now .... this says to me that the systems they must be using arn't working as they intend. This might be ok if they were selling something unimportant, but this is car insurance and if you dont have cover there are very disastrous consequences!

So if you are going to pay your insurance up front Coverbox may be ok, but dont go anywhere near them if you are going to pay monthly. I have learned the hard way and am over £300 down thanks to the experience and it could have been a lot worse if I had unwittingly been driving without cover and something had happened. I'm not saying that they are a group of conmen but a company with internal systems and customer services this bad shouldn't be allowed to sell something as important as car insurance in my book.

In reply to the letter earlier about why didnt I just say I hadnt received the letter it wouldnt have made any difference, as the guy i spoke to said once the policy is cancelled there is nothing they can do (except charge you a massive cancellation fee).

Sorry if this post sounds like a rant but I had nearly erased this from my memory and when I received the SMS this morning it nearly made me explode with anger.

Another SMS from Coverbox to contact them urgently!
  • I can relate to some of the nagative posts about coverbox - I too recieved a cancellation letter in the post just 1 month after taking insurance with them. I rang up and was re-assured by a helpful member of staff that it was an error that had effected many of their customers. So I was relieved.

However I noticed after acouple of months the monthy spend report they had on their site was much lower than my bills - I checked this with them expecting to be paying £25 as i was hardly using my car only to be told that this report was incorrect and had been removed. Drive less doesn't seem to = Pay Less. I accepted theri explanation that it would benefit me at the end of the year when its time to renew i would get a big saving.

Today I recieved and email from them telling me they have recalculated my policy.
Originally my premium was £780 for 10,000 miles mostly off peak. I reviewed that at the start of July to 7,000 miles as i now walk to work. However shortly after this change I traveled down south for our annual family holiday. So an extra 800 miles were traveled more than normal. This seems to have caused a £589.42 increase to my already expensive policy. They have already changed my direct debit from £65 to £138 per month. I am disgusted! And the reason is because when my miles were at 10k it only cost me £70 a month. (Please note their own sytem forecasts 10,040 miles if i go on holiday every month, just 40 miles more than my original policy) how can this possible be justified only 4 months into the policy.

I have yet to call Coverbox regarding this email but i will update you further after I have spoken to them again. :(

I'm still having issues with coverbox, requested no claims letter twice now and nothing has come through, my new insurance company are not happy and about to put my payments upto full cost.
