Coverbox PAYG insurance

there seems to be another PAYG insurer called Insure The Box. Has anyone had any experience of them? I was considering using them but I am just not sure about the constant monitoring in order to confirm your mileage and whether you are a good driver. Also the quote i received was just okay.0

I bought a policy for my son and they fitted the box the car within 10 days and we have had no problems. He can now see how many mile he has used and can manage his insurance one the web.
Not had a claim so cant vouch for them there but all is good so far.
If it is a good quote id recommend them fine.0 -
I have tried coverbox and i found out that it's just not worth it. After paying over 400 pounds deposit, an Engineer that was supposed to come and fix the tracker could not locate my address in this jet and age. Another appointment was booked but there and then, my premium was suddenly amended and the amount increased for something that was not my fault.
The Engineer eventually came and after starting my car, said he would not be able to install the tracker because the battery of my car was faulty. He asked me to replace the battery and then book another appointment. There and then my premium was amended again and the amount increased. I took the car for repair and the mechanic advised me no to drive the car until i replace some parts which took a month to ship from Japan.
After repair, i called coverbox to book another appointment and they said that they had cut me off. They claimed to have sent a letter but i did not receive anything. I drove the car twice against the mechanics' advice without knowing that coverbox has stopped insuring me which can land me into 6 points trouble with the police.
I called to collect my deposit back but they only gave me 50%. In a nutshell coverbox is crap!. I am with One call and they covered me comprehensively without reading my miles. Coverbox could only cover me for 5000 off peak and 500 miles peak costing me a ridiculous amount. I even paid less with One Call. I will advise anyone to stay away from them in terms of PAYG insurance. If you cannot get a pay monthly, then go for eCar insurance.....0 -
Ok so called them up twice since the last post. The first time I was told to wait patiently for someone to contact me regarding the pricing error on my account. After two more weeks I phone back again to be told that my new inflated price is final. SO I DITCHED THEM. Got a cheaper qoute from Admiral Insurance by using the guide here on moneysavingexpert.com :money: and left Coverbox for Good! Mind you it is costing me at least £120 to leave - thats there cancellation fee!!!! One point to note is that they are unable to give you a price for settling your account early unless you actually close it first  - It has now been handed to another team to calculate how much is owed to me or to them. I'm yet to find out what the damage will be but with a difference of £400 between my quotes i'm certain i will be saving money overall and preventing any further messing about with Coverbox just upping my policy whenever they feel like it! :jI have yet to call Coverbox regarding this email but i will update you further after I have spoken to them again.
It's RateJacking the insurance version!!!!
You have been warned!
Any Questions then PM me or post here.0 -
i joined coverbox sept 2009. 28th august i rang them to say i had sold my car and bought another one and gave them the new car details. they assured me they would send me an updated proposal for the new year. when i didnt hear anything after 2 weeks i called them. they advised of my new payment plan and that i was now insured to drive my new car but i would get a call back within 48 hours to confirm everything. after 4 days i called them back to be told they dont have my new car details and therefore my policy has lapsed and i wasnt insured to drive my new car. i had a manager to call me back only to find i am no longer insured with this company but if i wanted to re-apply i could do it online. so after being told my insurance for the new car was £320 and then find out if i re-apply i have to pay £670. i asked about the rebate as i stated i would use approx 6000 miles but i only used 3900. i was told my rebate had been refunded into my account of £4. i have asked for a formal complaint to be forwarded on as they dont have a complaints service you can speak to. i have been told a formal complaint can take 14 days to be dealt with. so i have a car i cannot use. will let you know what happens0

just a quick update. i have recieved a reply from coverbox over my formal complaint. they have agreed an insurance quote and i also got my son on the insurance who is 18 and still on provisional licence - he has his test next month - and for the both of us it only cost £1415. so a result this time round.0

We have used Coverbox since September 2009, two adult drivers and one provisional (now qualified) young driver. Initial premium based on 4000 miles per year was good (£735 plus tax and tracker fitting). Tracker fitting took a couple of weeks, but not a problem.
Coverbox very poor at issuing documents - certificates have had to be ‘re-sent’ on two occasions.
I am now having an argument with them as they have hiked the rate per mile and forecast mileage during the policy period when there was a one off high mileage. The actual mileage at the end of the year is well below the original estimate but they have decided to change (increase) the mileage rate retrospectively. Result is that I have now paid £870 for 3300 miles instead of £735 for 4000 miles! Not quite the Drive Less Pay Less insurer they promote themselves as.
The actual premium should be about £600 if they applied the policy rules fairly.
I will pursue this with them as the product is not as represented and the rate changes are not in line with normal insurance practice or Coverbox representations. But this could be a long haul.
Coverbox also changed their online “driver dashboard” earlier this year - it used to tell you the amount you had spent as well as mileage but the spend information has been dropped. Makes it more difficult to keep track of costs and any changes in rates they decide to impose.
I too have had their threatening letter to cancel the cover - when they already had ten months premium in hand for goodness sake! Anyway that’s how they got the additional premium out of me mid term.
No claims so far thank goodness so not sure what the claims handling is like.0 -
I have been with coverbox since March, the tracker wasn't fitted for over 3 weeks, but i checked that i was insured which was with immediate effect depite the documents taking about 2 weeks.
The tracker i feel is quite useful, it tells you how you drive and the times at which you drive and also the roads you use so you can tell how safe your journeys are etc.
I underestimated my mileage (12,000) but i was doing 3,000 miles a month. My premium was raised after 1 month from £46 to £55.40 but my total policy including extras is still less that £650. This is excellent value for money considering i will be driving 30,000+ miles this year. It is also incredible value for money considering i lost my licence for speeding under the new drivers regulation (6 points). I was with direct line (£800 renewal for 2 years NO claims, but after my little mishap- yeah it was a little mishap, they wanted £1900).
Coverbox do not collect speeds (thank God!!! but who cares if they take your mileage). Im sure they take average journey times (although we don't have access to the information and no they don't contact the police - i've not heard anything yet after 8 months so i presume it's safe)
I have also had the pleasure of dealing with them due to an inexperienced driver who decided to drive into the side of my car. I made one mistake by replacing the wishbone and bushing myself, so i could still drive the car, but after that the car was taken promtly to be repaired, i was given a replacement car and i had the car back within 5 days. I am still waiting for the money i paid however. The car was returned very clean and i have to say that although they have been a little slow chasing the other party, i can say that they have been as good an insurance company as you would hope for.
I feel that they do offer real value for money for anyone with issues getting insurance elsewhere. Excessive points or young and inexperienced drivers. And yeah theft tracking is a bonus i suppose.0 -
I posted here early November when Coverbox were being very difficult about refunding premium based on mileage driven.
After a couple of letters and some emails I got through to the BDML Complaints department who checked all the data and agreed a £250 refund which has now arrived.
So our cover came in around £600 for a year's driving (4,000 miles) with a 17 year old on the policy in London.
That is way better value than other providers.
That said the 'driver dashboard' is still not working for us - will need to track mileage by hand.0 -
I've just had my renewal from Coverbox. I have only done 1800 of the 3000 I forecast.
They claim my milage is as forecasted so have doubled my premium. No refunds, no discounts
as promised when I took out the policy last year. If I want to leave them I have to do it
within 14 days of receiving my documents and pay £120. They sent the documents with
the renewal. My present policy expires 4th Feb. Not happy! What other insurance company
charges not to renew? Surely this is not legal?0
