Hi can anyone help please,I bought a used car from a well known garage part ex my old car for £500 and paid £3000 cash 20 mins after picking it up it started to go wrong it started revving away on its own a sounded really bad,When i rang the dealership and said i didn't want the car and wanted my money back or even exchange for another car for the same value they say that point blank cant be done they are offering to fix it i do have warranty on it but i just don't want the car ive lost all confidence in it,Do i have any rights to get a refund or a exchange??

    Hello Alabamma.

Very sorry tale this one,did you not take it on a good test drive before purchase,i understand it could have gone wrong even after that but surely you may have heard or felt that there was something wrong with it.

    Good luck.

  • I did take it on a test drive and it was fine but stupidly only drove it about 3 miles. The problem only starts on the car when its done about 10 15 miles.when the car has to stop when its not moving but the engine is on its revving really high as though you have your foot on the accelerator pressing it up and down but i dont.
It may be fixed now but i really feel like i dont want the car..
Thanks for your help guys looks like im just going to have to pick it up and hope for the best

    Hello Alabamma.

This is going to sound quite rude,i dont mean it to be.

As others have said it may just be a very simple fix and then your on your way.

However i get the feeling here that maybe you have purchased the car and on driving it for a few miles longer that the three mile test drive you may have decided that this is not the car for you,and want to swap it.

Cars are very funny animals that need a lot of TLC more so second hand models, and you MAY have a lot of trouble with it in the future or you may be lucky and get no trouble.

An overrevving engine to me does not sound like a major issue such as a knocking sound from an engine or any number of other major issues that can and frequently do happen.Im no mechanic by any means.

    Once again good luck.

You made a £3500.00 purchase and only took it three miles,i think that was a mistake.

Get in contact with them and they will surely fix the issue, and next time you have a test drive....Insist on a good long test drive dont be bullied or cajoled into just going around the block.

Thanks for your comments i do appreciate them but this is not the issue of deciding ive made the decision the car is not for me after driving it a few more miles and wanting to swap it,I do like the car but now i don't trust it with it having this problem i feel like is this the start of the problems to come..

Thats what im trying to say,you are going to have problems in the future minor little problems like everyone else,as i said it does not sound like a major issue to me so dismissing the car on that basis does not seem right.

I do drive myself but im no Mechanic, however i know the basics.

How much does it cost to put this over revving right? I mean, should it happen again?

it has happened once, they have fixed it,take the car and if it happens again soon then go back to the garage and go for a refund, they have dealt with the situation correctly so far.

look at it this way if you get a puncture you get it fixed would it put you of the car?

the only reason you are now not happy with the car is from what you have read on the internet
