if you posted up what exactly it needs for the test and also the advisories to give us some idea if its worth repairing or scrapping.
Thanks for your understanding, I have got the car serviced 2 times last year and got it winter checked as well, no issues ever cropped up. But corrrosion is something that just happen with the car of this age. Here is what is required to get MOT sorted:
1.Front position lamp not in good working order
2. Front brake hose excessively deteriorated
3. Offside Front brake hose excessively deteriorated
thanks for your advice in advance0 -
I agree £200 isn't bad at all. I had to scrap my ten year old car as it was going to be over £1000 to get it through its MOT and I had been looking after it, constantly getting things fixed throughout the year. The car had done nearly 150,000 miles. £200 isn't alot even for a much younger car having repairs.0

200 quid to fix a light and replace a couple of hoses. I'd find another garage. (unless you're in the South East, then that sounds about right)
Whereabouts are you located?0 -
I always assume that any car I own could potentially require £300 spending on it for MoT. Even my current car, 50,000 miles from new, 9 years old, needed £300 spending on it between MoTs because of advisories.
From this point, you need to be factoring in a monthly cost of repairs for your car of about £30, just so you have about £360 set aside for MoT/the unexpected repair.
As for the work you've listed, find a local "fix it man", who might cost you £70-100 to fix it. Garages can charge £100/hour for labour, "a little man" round the corner might be charging just £35/hour. Ask around your mates: who knows a bloke that can do this work?0 -

To the OP the price of scrap is pretty good at the moment some scrap yards are paying up to about £150 if you take it to them however £200 for an mot is pretty damn cheap and if thats for the garage to do the work it might not be alot at all ive always been of the opinion if another years motoring costs you £300 then its all good luckily i do all my own repairs might be a good idea if you posted up what exactly it needs for the test and also the advisories to give us some idea if its worth repairing or scrapping.
Not being able to afford £200 in one go does mean you can't afford to run a car - it's a banger at the end of the day so hasn't cost much.
If that's the situation you are in you need to flog the car and get a bus pass or bike.
No point mollycoddling someone - it's the real world out there.0 -
From what you hve listed as wrong, I would get a mobile mchanic out or you local car accessory shop will probably be able to recomend some one.
The headlamp is most likely just an adjust ment and the pipes if you were to buy them not much more than about 10-15£, then add in brake fluid and fitting less than 100£I used to be me !! what happened0 -
You have exactly the same car as I do- same year, same engine...
Mine flies through it's MOT's- but then hubby is an ex mechanic. They're usually excellent. However, it looks like you may have a lemon.
These still have a very strong following, so you'd do well to register & post on one of the related forums. If you can't find a cheaper garage, then see what you can get for parts on one of the Mazzie sites.Only dead fish go with the flow...0 -
It's annoying, but £200 for a car of that age isn't so bad. However, I'd also say that you can probably get a better price than that if you have a look about.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.
