MOT Failure- I m lost!! pls help anyone..
Hi there,
My car is a Mazda 323 P reg car 1996 1.5, bought it 1 year ago passed the MOT after paying £300 in repairs. This year it has failed the test again and it requires another £200 to get things in place. Not sure about my options here.
I cannot afford another car, neither can I afford £200 on a car that has 20 advisory warnings on MOT report as well. I can be without a car for a while but then how shall I sell my car, who will buy it without MOT.
Please advice....thanks

I guess what you need to weigh up is whether you'd get your £200 back on the price of the car if you fixed it and then sold it with 12/11/10 months test - MOT failures go for very little.0

Basically you simply cannot afford to run a car ( sorry if that sounds harsh ).
You could list it on eBay for spare or repair without an MOT.0 -
You can't afford a car, will get !!!! all for selling the car apart from as for spares - !!!!!! it's 14 years old.
You sound like the person that views the MOT as the service - I bet you don't spend a penny on it all year which is why you end up with 20 advisories.

What repairs does it need to pass?
What are the advisories?0 -

Not at all. it's obvious OP does not maintain the car in between MOT's.0 -

Possible I suppose.. then again he could take it to another tester & get nil advisories! It's all down to opinion.
If it cost £200 for a 12 month mot I'd do it, you won't get another car for that!
Keep an eye on the advised items thoughAlways try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
£200 to pass an MOT on a 14-15 year old car is pretty good to be honest. £200 spent in a garage wouldn't buy to much these days so i doubt it needs very much to pass....work permit granted!0

What exactly affording to run your car has got to do with anyone on here is beyond me the OP asked for some advice not to be abused theres alot of folks out there that cant afford £200 in one pop just because some people on here obviously drive around in brand new range rovers and mercedes doesnt mean everyone can afford to geez lighten up.
To the OP the price of scrap is pretty good at the moment some scrap yards are paying up to about £150 if you take it to them however £200 for an mot is pretty damn cheap and if thats for the garage to do the work it might not be alot at all ive always been of the opinion if another years motoring costs you £300 then its all good luckily i do all my own repairs might be a good idea if you posted up what exactly it needs for the test and also the advisories to give us some idea if its worth repairing or scrapping.0 -

I agree. My car is nearly 11 and it's likely it'll need some welding for its MOT this year (but very little else). If it comes in under £200 I'll be delighted.
You'd certainly be far better off spending £200 to get a car that you know is a good runner through the MOT than spending £200 on a banger with a few month's MOT left on it but god knows what hidden problems.0
