I saw Running to the Limits when it was on last year - thought in general it was rather disappointing, and the guy was a bit of a nob, but agree it made some very valid points about the state of British running. I just can't remember what they were now... :rotfl:"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

Sorry am having internet issues this morning :mad:
No I think the media and sponsors arent interested because no one wants to put in the work to become World class - too much of a 'I want it now attitude' which Alex was a perfect example of - ooo I'm going to run sub 3 by doing 2 years training - yeah right!!! More like 6 or more!
I also think that womens running is in an even worse state because there's too much in the media/society that rewards 'trying hard' rather than winning - all that patronising rubbish that really annoys me...but then I remember when I asked on here a while back what was better:
Mo Farah winning a 5k race or one of us running one in 40 minutes
The response was one of us - even though hes devoted his life to being the best people still dont recognise that effort, sweat and sacrifice - no wonder nobody wants to take up running competitively - imagine giving your life to something and having it demeaned by people who they are better than you because they can run a 40 minute 5k and you are just 'showing off'.
Fortunately for me I dont give a stuff what such people think and I am surrounded in my life by people who reward achievement so I am more insulated from this but I do get stick for the amount of time/energy I put into this and my training regime isnt even that onerous...
Sorry I'll stop now :eek::eek::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

i really admire you for your dedication to your running, but i think the reason why people thought that 'one of us' was a better achievement was because 'one of us' is an ordinary person, doing training runs when they can fit it in with their family life, work, etc whereas Mo is an athlete..... so he is in a way 'superior' in running... (or we just take it as read he would win a 5 k cos he is a professional runner.)
i don't think people who wish to achieve a 40min 5k think they are better than Mo, i think that he (and other atheletes) are possibly the inspiration that keeps people running.
I feel schools have a lot to answer for in all aspects of atheletics. I was quite good at javelin and discus, but it wasn't encouraged by my pe teacher, i didn't know then about athletic clubs, or how to possibly persue it to get better, so i gave it up. Schools now don 't encourage competitveness, or the lesser acclaimed sports, so how can we expect win medals at international level in the future?Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500 -
