Problem is that if something goes the applicant's way then it is fine. If it doesn't then it isn't fair, a farce etc.

Perhaps people really aren't as ill as they think they are.

It was interesting that almost half of ESA applicants stopped claiming before their WCA if I am reading the stats correctly. Now did they recover, find a job or did the GP not issue any further certificates I wonder.

I know of a fair few people who have caught on to this idea that they will not be properly assessed until at least thirteen weeks, so have decided to take a thirteen week break (I know some classy people! ;) ).

Here are the latest DWP statistics for ESA:

    * Of all ESA claims in the quarter from March 2009 up to the end of May 2009:
o 5 per cent have been assessed by the WCA as suitable for the ESA Support Group.
o 12 per cent have been assessed as suitable for the ESA Work Related Activity Group.
o 38 per cent have been assessed as fit for work.
o the remaining 45 per cent either left ESA before the completing the assessment or the assessment is still in progress.

Interesting stats - that means that of those assessed as being unfit for work, nearly a third are in the support group, which is a lot more than has been suggested. Also, the failure rate for the WCA is nearly 70%. :o

The problem with ESA is that it dosnt consider many seriouse, life threatening illnesses and the affects that they have on people , my husband has stage 4 kidney failure and another very seriouse illness and the medical isnt designed for organ failure, he is now in the support group were he should be but it wasnt easy and took months.

McMillan, the cancer charity are saying the same thing, ESA dosnt consider many cancers and the affects that they have on people and only those on chemo are exempt from the PCA (or is it WCA?)

There needs to be some changes in ESA, stopping the 13 week holiday dmg has mentioned and the medical broadend to account for the life threatening illnesses currently ignored.

How long did your appeal take?

    and

Did they stop your money while the appeal was going through or did they still pay you?

as soon as you find out you did not pass the medical you MUST fill out a form ASAP saying why you disagree with the decision and ask it to go to the tribunal
l think there is a time limit to appeal
l went down to there in person got the form from one of the helpers in the reception and filled it out there and then. l handed it in to the helper and asked her for a copy of the form with their stamp on it saying they had recieved it and the date
. dont post it in case they say they hav,nt recieved it:mad: ..as if they would ;)!!

as long as you get this form in and have a date stamped copy of the form they should still pay you as normal untill the tribunral hearing make sure you still send in gp certificates , l was told l didnt have to as it was going to appeal . but that was wrong

l filled out mine on 6 june 2009 and got a letter begining of jan10 for a hearing on 29 jan can l suggest ...if you get help with your case they advise you not to say you will accept a hearing at short notice if there,s a cancellation..... your help needs all the time poss to prepare your case.

dont forget when you get to the tribunral they assess you as you were on the date of the medical ..NOT the date of the tribunral.., so if your leg has dropped off in the meantime it wont count:rotfl::rotfl:

also v important... answer every Q as if it is your WORST ever day, and lets face it all genuine people on esa have more bad days than good.

l wish you well + let us know how u get on
:EasterBun GRAB EVERY OPPERTUNITY YOU GET ..YOU DONT KNOW HOW LONG YOUR HERE FOR

People should NOT answer the questions as if it is your worst ever day as this could lead to a very false impression. It should be answered as a typical or average day.

It seems to be working just how the Government intended and failing more people. I read recently the test is being reviewed due to the high rate of failure.

It seems that I am the only person who had a nice ESA medical. The doctor was lovely and was very apologetic that I had even been called in for the medical. After reading on various forums about the hoops that people have to jump through in order to pass the medical I was extremely worried, however I neednt have been as the whole ESA Claim for me has been relatively simple. Im now in the support group and will have to have another medical in October 2012.
    Same here

Though not sure when next will be due

  • It doesn't assess what you can't do, rather what you can do.

Can't continue as a labourer? Get a job in an office etc

I cant realy say if mine was bad or not. I am waiting for a heart transplant, but still got 0 points at my medical. I have appealed and am waiting for the tribunal. In the mean time have been awarded HRM DLA

My husband had a stroke and had no use in his left side, it was suggested he
could train to become a flower arranger, because he could no longer be a wagon driver:(
