I actually work at B&Q on the refunds desk and yes the system does require a postcode no matter what type of refund, cash or card.. If you are so bothered about giving your postcode just say no and we enter the store postcode.. who ever said that was correct. It is just to prevent fraud and stop staff from doing fake and dodgy refunds. But what have you got to hide?
It is unfortunate that you had just been overcharged so I get that it seems abit much to have to enter your postcode for that, but like i said you have nothing to hide so whats the big deal.
Also, the reason we have a refunds desk seperate to sales checkouts is because refunds take significantly longer that a sales transaction so can you imagine if all transactions refunds and sales were made at the checkouts the queuing time would be twice even three times as longer and thats during quiet periods. Some refunds are quick like overcharges but not every customer has the same problem sap orders can take up to 10 minutes or more to process and even some simple til receipts if the customer has many items can take a long time so thats why we have sales tills and refund tills and if you think about it properly instead of moaning maybe you will appreciate the concept. B&Q dont do things to annoy their customers somethings are just procedures that have to be followed.

Nobody gets my personal details, I have more respect for my PERsonal SECurity (PERSEC) than that. No tilly monkey is stealing my identity...
HaHaHa. being a tilly monkey myself at B&Q. This comment made me laugh because how the hell would i steal your identity from knowing your address. Also you have just contradicted yourself in that if we are just monkeys.. surely we arent capable to pull off such a stunt to steal YOUR precious identity.

We dont HAVE to give you a refund, only if your product is not fit for purpose etc etc. So if its just something you decided against and don't have your receipt then you have no chance.. its a zero tolerance policy so whyyy every weekend I get verbally abused by customers with no receipt is beyond me. KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS. Seriously.
Basically if you have your receipt and its fine and within the 45 days then your fine. If its out of the 45 days or you dont have your receipt and its not faulty then you havent got a chance in hell of getting a refund unless you can bring a bank statement and we can find the transaction on the system..0 -

True. I find the attitude that being expected to be a tiny bit organised and keep receipts is too much to ask. It's not- and it's not a geekish and pedantic level of organisation either- it's a normal level of organisation.
I lost a receipt once, it was a receipt I needed. I didn't get all unpleasant and start complaining that the retailer was being unreasonable- no I accepted that it was my own fault.0 -

That's why I said "...if you are entitled to a refund under your statutory rights...".

I was in asda a few weeks ago and had 2 lots of shopping to pay for... with both lots I was asked for my postcode, I didnt think to ask why.. I was in a tearing hurry to get to work... Does anyone know why they would be asking for it?"Aunty C McB-Wik"
