I ask my customer whether they would like a printed receipt or one on a card. I also ask them if they want me to put the details on. I always put my car number on, sign itand date it.

Why would you not include the pick up locaion, the drop off location and the actual fare?

If the customer is waiting I do.

The customer is often in a rush ie being droppped at a train station and because they are late etc they don't have time for me to write all details in.
have you not thought also some business people are coming from/going places that there firms probably wouldn't pay for so would like to fill the details in theirselves.
Anyone asking for a business card off us is also getting a blank receipt as the back of the cards are filled out as a receipt.
If the customer asks me for a receipt then I ask if they want a printed one off the cc machine or a filled in one...the choice is theirs as said in the original post.
I have no problems writing them one...had you have read the post you would have seen this!!!

I did and you stated that you ask your customers if they want you to put the details on the receipt, but that you always put your car number on it, sign it and date it.

By details I now realise you mean the journey details and the fare, fields you leave blank for such reasons as to permit passengers to claim expenses for journies they did not take.

To be honest, it always amazes me that people are naive enough to fill in a taxi receipt themselves and submit it for reimbursement because when it comes to getting rid of folk, getting rid of them due to the submittal of falsified expenses claims is one of the easiest methods. :)

As I say that is entirely up to the customer at the end of the day.
I am always willing to write out a full receipt or a printed receipt but some customers leave it so late in the morning that they don't have time.
9/10 times the people that require receipts after the early morning run..will wait that few extra seconds to have one written out.

Just because the taxi driver gives you a blank receipt. I would purport that most cabbies are completely honest and that writing out hundreds of receipts for everyone all day would waste valuable time as well as holding up traffic which would slow ones journey down further, because they are honest and they trust you to fill out the recipt in good faith does not make it immoral.

Because you believe they are giving the blank receipts out to cheat the tax man or your expense account or whoever, does not mean that it is what the cabbie is intending for you to do when he gives you a blank receipt.

PS I am not a cabbie. Honestly. I hate the way they try and run you down in the wes-tend and think its funny if they get close almost as bad as when bus drivers do it.

Recently I was in a black cab in Birmingham and the "extras" on the meter were about £2.80. I was on my own, no luggage, within city limits, and it was after midnight.
I objected and he said it was because it was after midnight, but I think I was ripped off - may I ask what you think, as a taxi driver?

Standard practice for Black Cabs to have a supplement for journeys after midnight or on certain public holidays.

Yes you were definitely ripped off.The after midnight element of the fair is in the main tarriff..you are correct in that the extras are for luggage, extra passengers, dogs etc.
For future reference when in a black cab...it will have a licenscing plate on take a note of that number and report them to licensing for that area withy the time/date etc as licensing take a very dim view of this.
In a P/H you can phone the booking office or the local licensing.
Hope that helps for the future.

The supplement is built into the meter on the main meter...extras are for passengers bags etc and are only on the extras section.
There are very stringent rules set by the council regarding meters. It's a serious offence to oivercharge which can result in loss of badge and license.

Thanks. Any idea about what to say at the time? I did query it but he just said it was because it was after midnight and I didn't know enough to be able to argue the point.

I guess he assumed I was drunk, as many people are at the time, although I wasn't.
