You could try their monthly/yearly rolling sim only contract which is very good value, better still if you buy through Quidco and get cash back!

I was thinking of buying a freedom pack for a 2 week trip to OZ.
    in combination with Vodafone passport.

I did this last August and it worked out fine for cheap calls back to the uk.

Then there was a holiday on the 75p conection charge.

How will this work with the 75p charge.?

Does it come out of the £20 .

Can Anyone explain. I sure its quite simple but I just need to be sure that I getting this right.

If its £20 for 2 weeks( I know it lasts 30days) thats got to be cheap?

    Thanks people.

Freedom pack are only valid for when you are in the UK.

You were able to use Freedom Packs for overseas calls in conjunction with Passport during last years Summer Roaming Promotion but that has now been discontinued.

If you are visiting Oz, you will need to pay the 75p Passport connection charge for making and receiving calls.

    Thanks Ann S.

I'm still looking into this and even those on the Vodafone help line seem confused.

In the T&C s in says that Freedom Packs are only for UK use.
    3. Usage: Texts and minutes included in your Pack are for UK use only

    But:
    What is Vodafone Passport?

Opting in to Vodafone Passport means you'll pay your standard home rate to call the UK from over 35 European countries - and from Australia and New Zealand.
Whenever you make a call back to the UK, or within the country you're visiting, there's a 75p connection charge. Then you'll pay your home rate for the time you spend on the call. You can even use your Freedom Pack or inclusive minutes.

    Which do I believe?

    Hi Vintagered

    It's a good question!

A Freedom Pack can't be used while you're roaming. This worked for you in the past as we had a promotion last year that let you use your normal plan abroad.

You can see it confirmed in our Help Centre here.

    Thanks

The latest Vodafone mag in the Vodafone shops explains that a Freedom Pack can be used abroad in conjuction with passport. It also explains that if you have a pay monthly account then all you will pay is 75p and the remainder of the call comes out of your inclusive minutes.

Sorry can't remember what page its on but its the March 2010 mag.

    Hi matrix999,

    Well spotted everyone!

I have emailed a contact within the business to clarify whether or not the T&C's have changed in relation to using Freedom Packs whilst you are abroad. As soon as I have definite confirmation, I will pop on to the thread and let you know.

Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

    Thanks,

UPDATE: It is definitely possible to use your Freedom Packs alongside Passport whilst abroad. You will be charged 75p for the connection of the call and the rest of your minutes will be taken from the Freedom Pack allowance.

Strange the confusion at Vodafone over this.

I asked several people from Vodafone before by trip to Australia at the end of March and got conflicting answers on this.

Anyway I had an unlocked phone with a PAYG Vodafone sim in it.
Put £10 credit on it to cover the 75p connection fee.
And had a £20 freedom pack which I used as the most cost effective way of phoning. Couldn't use the 600 texts free with the FP in Oz.

Also used Sykpe with my Ipod for calling home. When in a wifi zone if the time difference was ok.

And had a Trailfinders phone card which I used from my hotel which worked well.

    Hope this helps.
