February 2010 Grocery Challenge

I've decided to join you all this month. I'm trying to save up for a new washing machine so I've cut our grocery budget to just £30 a week for me and DD(9). I'm also trying to loose weight so thats in theory helping although DD can easily eat adult portions and still complain she's hungry
So this months budget is £120 all in. I have a pending Asda shop (£80+) sitting in mysupermarket and I'm thinking I might do an approved foods order to stock up on some bits (which I'll pay for out of another budget, and then factor it in as I use stuff), but I'm leaving both for a week, then I'll look at them againI have fairly full cupboards & freezer so it shouldn't be so bad this month. I've menu planned around what I have in, including chippy once a week (separate treat budget;) we don't really go out and do anything as we'd rather stay in and watch films so this is mine & DD's little "mummy/daughter time") and apart form some fresh fruit, maybe some veg, milk & whoopies I shouldn't really need to buy much at all
Last night I went to MrA & Aldi (literally down the road & opposite each other) and spent £21.27 including some new kitchen stuff. I'm off to the doctors today and will be going past a Somerfields so I'm going to pop in & have a look on the way home and get some whoopsies hopefully.
I have £10 cash and thats all I'm going to spend MAX...in theory!
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

So he said he would and could i keep the freezer. woohoo! hope it works the extra freezer space would help no end.Grocery challenge Jan 270.27/200:eek:

Had to pop to the fruit and veg shop today for a few bits and pieces for my guinea pigs but needed a few things for me and OH as well :-
2 Onions
2 Leeks
2 Beetroots ( for the guinea pigs )
1 Cucumber ( again for the guinea pigs )
5 Large baking potatoes
10 Eggs
1lb Mushrooms
1 Small turnip
Total £5.06 which I thought was quite good
Going to make some soup tomorrow, have a small piece of gammon to use up. Making toad in the hole tonight so needed the eggs for that. Shouldn't need anything else, with the exception of milk, until my next "big shop" which I think will be around the 13th. So I don't think I'm doing too badly so far
Will update my signature to the new total...Going to get to grips with food shopping again, starting February!

Despite having done a big shop in ASDA on Saturday I ended up in Tescos todays as I needed a couple of bits £16 later
plus I had a busy morning so forgot to do a lunch so I had to buy something. I'm going to have to be careful or I blow my budget before the middle of the month!!!
Does anyone else have a supermarket addiction or is just me??0 -
Hi all. Me again - getting addicted to this site, love all the ideas.
Had my Abel & Cole delivery today - just one more to get the £50. When I have I think I will go to 2 weekly boxes as struggling to get through everything, although giving some to DD.
Made carrot, swede and sweet potato soup today. It is yummy - nicely full!
Have added todays cost to my signature but have so much food now I'm hoping that I can last for another 2 weeks, only need milk.
Have a load of beetroot, luckily there are some great recipes on the Abel & Cole site - and no I don't work for them just enjoy their produce.
Keep up the good work everyone. :T0 -
Hi everyone :hello:
Well Mr M lured me in at lunchtime and managed to relieve me of £14.39!! Not all bad though, as had some MOCs, plus offers in store.
If anyone likes coffee, Mr M is doing an offer on the 200g jars of Kenco (Smooth and Rich roasts) - buy the jar at £4.90 and get a 200g eco-refill free (usual price £4.77). DH is addicted to the stuff, so a good offer for him
Hope everyone's having a good day!

Definitely the same here! Thats why I try to just do my shopping online now, I could easily spend £100+ each visit if I went into the shopbut now I tend to spend £60 every couple of weeks online and only pop to small local shops for top ups, that way there's no temptation to buy things I don't need.
Going to get to grips with food shopping again, starting February!
