Replacement Boiler quote

Very hard to compare like for like under the circumstances but I replaced my boiler last November (Baxi Solo gas condenser boiler plus flushing plus 3 room thermostats, direct replacement, for a three-bed semi) and got three quotes, after much pestering. They ranged from about £1400 to £1800. I went for the cheapest and have been quite happy so far.
I think you have to get more quotes for comparison.0 -
Oh sorry I read your post as suggesting that fitting a magnaclean would be an alternative to a flush at the install.inmypocketnottheirs wrote: »Hence the reason for recommending Magnaclean, as the flush is included in the price. If it wasn't then I would have suggested it.
Yes I know - isn't that what I said?If at the very least, a chemical flush should be done prior to commissioning. If this isn't done, then the manufacturer's warranty would be invalidated.

Yes it was. I was just wanted to reiterate the point that a flush (if not a power flush) must be done to ensure warranty is valid.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

Hi everyone
Just tagging onto Blindman's post, with a slightly different issue.
We've just moved into a new (well, new for us, but it was built c.1980) end terraced, 3 bedroom house, built over 3 floors. Moved in on 10th Dec and our approx. gas consumption for less than 2 months is over £300! Now, I do appreciate it was an extremely cold period BUT even the gas supplier thought it was v. high.
Spoke to the Energy Saving Trust about the boiler scrappage scheme due to start here in Scotland in April and I believe we may be able to get £400 towards the cost of a new, more efficient boiler. **UPDATE: THE BOILER PROTECTION ENGINEER FROM SCOTTISH HYDRO'S 'SHIELD' SERVICE CAME OUT FOR OUR INITIAL INSPECTION AND CONFIRMED THEY WON'T COVER IT AS IT CONTAINS ASBESTOS! EEK!**
We have a c.1978 Potterton Netaheat 10-16 MKII which is almost as inefficient as they come. That said, it's not broken so there's no desperate need to replace it now but I wondered what the approximate costs might be to replace the boiler with a new, condensing one.
The house has 3 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms and approx 13 radiators throughout.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Any of the bathrooms have power showers, or are they all electric?
Do you wan to retain a hot water cylinder or would you prefer a combi?Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

Hi there - thanks for replying.
No, only electric showers in the house. The 3rd bathroom doesn't really count, because it's only really a toilet and hand basin.
We'd be happy to get rid of the cylinder as it's stopping us from knocking a wall down between the kitchen and living room at the moment.0 -

Rough idea, between £4000-£5000 if you don't call Scottish Gas and probably £6000 upwards if you do.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

No combi will supply enough hot water to run 2 hot outlets together.
Also will depend on your existing cold mains flow rate and pressure.
I would have thought very approximately about £3K all in.0 -
33kw boiler should do a three bed house and will provide hot water at two places -albeit at a reduced flow.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

Workout what boiler you want/need, then buy it yourself from walkers heating (online) then you can work out roughly how much he's charging you for labour, combi's generally are only good for small houses and ideal for flats. Pay him in cash and keep the vat lol0
