  • yes windows defender needs to be turned on....but i have no idea how to do it in vista.
    othe rprogram i find great for sorting start up and auto run stuff is scotty the windows watchdog, its also barks and warns when anything tries to change anything on your comp, be it search engine change, hpme page change or registry changes....and i find it esier to understand/use than windows defender which i just switch on and leave(or hope is on anyway so i dont have to get another firewall).

    Windows defender may need a new download from microsoft because it's a pretty new version and if it isn't running it may be because it never got downoaded in an update?

  • TMK, i just deleted everything the malawrae found, it never harmed my pc or anything like that(it actually really helped lol). Although you do what you think it safe hun. Good luck x x . I'm off now, be back bout 1ish if i make it back from tescos alive with my kids in tow!!!
