Exactly, and we keep seeing silly use of the rules.

  • Gave up many years ago, but remember the odd time when the lit end got knocked off into your lap.
Couldn't claim you were in control then !

Personal opinion, I hate people who smoke in cars, and then flick their doubt out of the window. It's very distracting when you're on a motorbike, and the doubt lands between your crotch and your fuel tank....

  • I ve heard of situatuations where people throw the finished lit cigarettes out of their windows and cars have had to avoid this. Really annoys me how this is allowed to happen.

Yes you can be found not to be in full control if you are seen smoking whilst driving.

Thing is, ive never heard it happening - ASH is quite powerful pressure group and would pounce on anything like that happening, they have alot of influence in the media and of course, smokers make up a big swath of the population - nose pickers too but you know what I mean :)

I think that you are getting confused there, ASH is an anti-smoking lobby group.:)

    Forest is the pro-smoking group.

I'm a non-smoker (actually seriously allergic to ciggy smoke), but still think it should be allowed. I've seen the state that some smokers get into when they are denied a fag for too long, anything from the shakes through to serious road rage. Most of them are pretty well practiced at managing their fag as they drive too.

It's bad enough just banning company car drivers. I can't enter a motorway services these days without having to walk through a cloud of smoke as everyone huddles around the enterance for shelter from the rain. This literally makes my skin go red and start stinging. It was much better pre-ban when they could smoke in their cars and in designated indoor areas. I never had this problem then.

Very soon, the way things are going, it will be an offense to fart in your own car.

I think people should pay more attention when driving but how far will we take it? Driving is a multi tasking thing and why is it ok for reporters to do pieces to camera ? A big cameraman sitting next to you has to be distracting!
