DVD Rom drive on laptop playing up please help

Options
I have been trying to get my Dvd rom drive on my laptop to read data dvds that I have burnt in the past and it does not seem to be reading them(though I can still burn onto blank disks), bought disks are not a problem, it only seems to be the blank ones that have data burn onto them, could there be any reason for this????

Not wanting to be pedantic but what of now...if you burn a disc with data presently, does it read OK?

Could you perhaps try an alternative media subset - DVD -R, DVD -RW, DVD +R, DVD +RW, DVD -RAM - if your player is able to play/read.

Nope any Dvds I've burnt recently, will still not be read once burnt, have tried in friends laptop and they read fine and the data is fine, dvd drive just doesn't seem to read the disk.

    I'm very confused!!!

did you burn them in the past on that pc with the same burning software you have now? Sometimes when you burn data you can leave it 'open ended' (forget teh proper term) so you can add more later but this often prevents you reading the data with different software until it has been 'finalised'.

mmm, this is an annoying one. Do you pick the fastest burn option or a low burn option? I know I always pick a slower option as I 'believe' (maybe incorrectly) that the data is burned deeper, maybe complete old wifes tale (or old computer geeks tail!) but it would kind of account for the purchased ones working but the home burned ones not.

Always do it on the slow burn option (I've heard the computer geeks tail too)

I've just burnt a mp3 data dvd, tried it on here again and the drive is having none of it, put the same disk in dvd player and all files are there and playing, also just made a dvd of home movies and that plays fine in the dvd player but not on pc! argh!!!!!
