My DS was a complete bottle monster!! He would drink his water or juice from a cup but he insisted on hisbottle of milk at night up until he was 3 1/2 when we convinced him to give it up!! My DD on the other hand started refusing the bottle at 12 mnths! But then she has refused to touch milk since - apart from a little on her cereal whereas DS will still drink milk by the pint!!!!!! Both my 2 have teeth that are in excellent condition and have not suffered as a result.0

my two and a half year old grandson still has his 'bockie milk' morning and night time - whats the harm in that? he has juice etc in a sippy cup.
his slightly younger cousin just has a bottle at night.
they wean themselves off the bottle when its appropriate for them. trying to accelerate the process can disturb their sleep patterns for one thing.
by the way - I like a 'bockie' before bed, only mine has wine in it, and i tip it into glass first!0 -

I actually found the non drip Avent cups that have attachments to the bottles, and then move into their own cups made more of an issue with my son's teeth. He used to have to suck so hard to get the milk out that his teeth are inward. Will never know what did it, but I am pretty sure it was those!0 -

If she has 8oz morning and night, it may explain why she doesn't feel the need to eat much during the day. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

No it's not because of that. She has breakfast, then at about 9 she'll have her bottle. then lunchtime, all she wants is "bibic" (biscuit) I don't give in though. What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0 -

my 2 year old son (26 months) drinks 9oz of milk first thing in the morning and last thing at night and still eats 3 meals a day, he is healthy, happy, the correct weight for his age and the owner of 20 perfect toothypegs!
he has all milk in his bottle and all water (sorry.. dont believe in the need for juice at this age) in a wide range of cups (i LOVE trying new cups! lol) but we have mostly settled on the ones where the straw pops up.
neneromanova - I understand the bicbic thing...DS went through a stage where all he wanted was "cakey!! cakey!!!" stick to your guns!0 -
First post so here goes...DD went straight from bottle to cup during transition period of 16-17 months. We started taking her out to cafes and ordering babyccino's for her. These usually come in a small paper espresso cup. Starbucks are best as they don't charge and don't add chocolate/ marshmallows etc, plus you can cool the drink down quickly by topping up with a little cold milk at the sugar station. She thought she was so grown up with her little babyccino whilst mummy and daddy were drinking their coffee. After a month or so, we then asked if she wanted a babyccino at home for her morning milk, just like she had been having in cafes. She was v.excited by this and we emphasised how grown up she was. A month later we did the same with her evening bottle and have never looked back. She is sometimes even allowed a sprinkle of special chocolate called cinammon on the top!!! FYI, we tried from 5 months until 15 months with all manner of beakers and toddler cups but she refused to drink from them. Probably worked out cheaper and more enjoyable to do the transition from bottle to babyccino to special mug at home rather than constantly trying with different beakers!!! HTH.0

I feel like a tough mummy now reading some of these posts. My DD is 20months and doesn't have a bottle and hasnt since she was 6months old. DD didnt take milk very well after I stopped breast feeding and we found she has silent reflux. When we strated her on solids we had to give her dairy products in her meals like making them up with the milk and using cheese yoghurts etc. She then had full fat cows milk. Now she has 3healthy meals a day, water to drink or milk in her cup and can drink out of a proper plastic cup. (we used the doidy cup first) My niece who is 10days older than my DD so 21months tomorrow still has a bottle before bed but I dont think she needs it IMHO. All she does is mess with the bottle and squirt the milk out on the carpet. Like someone else mentioned we dont give DD a drink too close to bedtime to help with potty training, we will be starting this shorty as DD regularly tells us when she wants to wee or poo and her nappies are dry most mornings or she has wee'd when we first get up( going to start taking her to toilet first thing).
If you think your child needs to have milk on a morning and bedtime then thats your choice for your child but I think using a cup or a cup shaped teat to get them used to this would be better. When they are having 3meals a day with healthy snacks I dont think they dont need it.0
