  • I'm absolutely gutted I've lost two thousand pounds with Advent! I only just started my learning, Barclays informed me they will be willing to cover my training if I continue my learning elsewhere :(

Is there anywhere anyone would recommend? has anyone heard of a company called PIPER IT or piper it? are they any good?
  • I can't get through to anyone at advent!

Barclays tell me they're looking for an alternative course for me (for 6k) but I've already found a course I want to do and it's half the price of the course that Barclays was funding.
Can anyone tell me if they will accept this, and revise the contract for the new course?
  • I'm not English and not aware of what we can or can't do, but couldn't we take a class action against them? I wasn't with Barclays, and have no clue for now of how to get my money back, but I know that I want my £5000 back!!!!

I sent two letters out this week by recorded delivery. I got a reply back this morning stating that Barclays are looking into other training providers. I did get a missed call on my mobile phone today.
Has any one else had Barcalys Finance call them?
I'm off to CAB sometime this week so I can let someone look through my case. One thing is for sure I'm glad we can ask Consumer direct and CAB for free advice.
  • NITLC Offer to Barclays Bank for Advent Students

The National IT Learning Centre has extended their support to help Advent Students by contacting Barclays Bank to discuss providing alternative training in the longer term.

The National IT Learning Centre recently offered Students free support and exam preparation for those studying the CompTIA A+ and had been left in the lurch by the closure of Advent IT.

Charles Oskwarek, NITLC’s Managing Director, stated, “Our offer to Advent students has been extremely well received, and we have filled classroom training sessions for them at no charge. Having spoken with many of Advent students it is clear that we could help them further as our course delivery is based on a similar model to that of Advent’s. We would be happy to look at each case because in our opinion we have found that a significant amount of Advent students had elements of courses that may not really relevant to their overall objectives.

We have been training for almost 20 years and we were the first IT Training Provider to offer Microsoft IT qualifications via distance learning. We have offices in the Midlands and London, and already support distance learning courses on a national scale; however, we would consider opening additional offices to meet the needs and demands of Advent students if feasible”.

Barclays Bank has been widely quoted in the press as looking to source training or better training for Advent Students. As reported by the BBC News website, Andrew Bond, a spokesman for Barclays said, “We recognise how important this training is for people and have formed a dedicated team to help any students find equivalent or better training at no extra cost to them so they can fulfil their aims".

NITLC feel that they are in a strong position to be part of that and look forward to hearing from Barclays.

  • Hi there, I signed up with Advent on a 1 year interest free through Barclay's partner finance, I have received 2 letters stating the obvious. The reason I am writing this is due to the fact that I do not wish to take another course, especially if I am not the person deciding on the provider. Since signing on the dotted line I have been laid off and gained further employment at a much lower rate of pay, hence if Barclay's can force the agreement I will be entering into an IVA the date the first payment is due.
This is not what I want to do, what I would like is to tell Barclay's where to go and walk away from my agreement with Advent. As far as I am concerned, I signed an agreement with advent, I never approached anyone for finance, it was done on my behalf by Advent to try and get me to sign, Advent are now no more, therefore I should be able walk away from this agreement.

If anyone is the same situation, i.e. Not yet started paying for their course please get in touch as I believe we should be able to refuse any/all alternatives put forward by Barclay's. All input and help would be openly received.
  • Not sure if this is any help to those of you out there but have found out that both of the MD's from Advent also run another company cld Advent (2) Limited Mr Ashley Jones and also Mr Andrew Richard Allchurch, by all accounts this company seems to be doing very well from what my sources say. I am now thinking of reporting this to the CIB for investigation, I really dont think that either of these two should be able to get away with what they have done to me and to thousands of other students. Something needs to be done!!
