I want to stop and i just want to know that i dont owe them anything and thats its been written off although it would be nice to get a refund since we have all paid them money for nothing pretty much.

I'm in two minds - I won't my qualification, but I've got no desire now to get up at 6am to study, when there isn't an exam, or the next book to follow.

Hey check out the advent page. Any payments made to anglo-capital after 14th Jan will be refunded. Not brilliant but its a start!

The real problem here is for those of us who had agreements with Anglo Capital
which is a group company / subsidiary / for all intents and purposes is Advent.

People with Barclays loans are being found alternative training and may be able to get full refunds / debts written off.

But are people with finance agreements with Anglo Capital screwed? Who can we sue / receive compensation from if Advent is insolvent?

I doubt we'll get much, if anything from an insolvency practitioner.

...and am I the only person who took a CDL with the Coop to fund their course?

I rang the Co-op, who basically told me I didn't have a leg to stand on.
I then spoke to the Financial Ombudsman's office, they disagreed quite strongly and have written to the Co-op bank on my behalf. If they don't reply in 8 weeks or find against me, the ombudsmen will step in.

I've also spoken to the Office of Fair Trading, who advised me that, despite having my CDL with the Co-op, as they understood it Barclays' Partner Finance will still find me a new course.

I'll call Barclay's tomorrow and keep y'all posted.
  • Hi,

My husband has a loan with Barclays which we are due to start paying back next week, got another loan to pay Barclays all in one go to avoid the high interest rates, thank god I didnt pay it all off yesterday as I only found out about all this at 7am today!

Anyway, I rung Barclays on behalf of my hubby as he's in work, obv they couldnt do anything to the account cos he'd have to ring himself to put it on hold. But I did ask what was going to happen and he told me that....

if Barclays find another training provider then you are still liable to pay the finance off whether or not you do the course with the new provider OR if they don't find another training provider then they will cancel it.

I did ask things like if the course centre was too far away etc and he said he couldnt answer questions like that cos a new provider hasnt been found but they would look at individual cases.

Anyone getting anywhere with there situations? Are Barclays right to say that to me? They said the finance is with a 'Training Provider' not Advent?!

    This is a nightmare!!
  • What are the options having paid Avent using a Maestro (Natwest issued) debit card?

Barclays told me they are looking for an alternative course for me, but I have found a cheaper course myself. Do I have a right to refuse the course, or am I still liable to pay it back whether or not I carry on?

They told me they're not breaching the contract, but it does not say on the loan agreement about alternative courses, just that I'm protected under CCP act 74.

Can someone tell me where I stand in this, please?
  • Hi,

I paid a 20% deposit to Advent on my Credit Card, The balance was paid for by CDL with the Co-Op. My course was put on hold through ill health. As the interest free time limit was looming I got a bank loan and paid the CDL in full last October. I'm going to try and claim from my credit card first then maybe if that doesn't work I'll try the Co-Op.

For those wondering if you can still get the books and CD's from Advent the answer almost certainly will be NO! They will have bought these in as they needed them. They definately won't have bought a job lot. When the insolvency practitioner starts to unravel their finances the first people inline for any money will be prefered creditors HMRC (VAT, Income Tax & Ni Payments owed) then the banks, etc, etc we will be at the end of a very long list. Any payouts will depend on any cash balances & saleable assets that Advent had. If the directors had lent the company money they too will be on the list of creditors.
Total claimed so far....over £40k! All for friends and relatives, who needs claim companies when we've got Martin!
