Alyssa-hope your grandad is ok :-(
Icckle-that picture is brilliant and I'd say about £70-£99 depending on size
Munchki-fingers crossed you hear today and I reckon haggling is a great idea for your blog, like that advert says we brits do have a overactive cringe gland! would be good to read some examples of what to do eg..salesman says....,you should say.... etc etc

Hmmmm what to do today, I do have to make a card for my parents wedding anniversary but thats not really money making (well I've saved on buying it I spose!)
Think I should look at how I'm going to promote the new collection. Not sure how to go about it, I have cards(postcard size) for the wedding stuff with pics on but cant really do that with the Seren stuff as its all one offs and if someone wants the one on the card and its sold they cant!
Should I get cards made up just with wording? Will do a blog about the new collection and put it on Facebook/Twitter etc but not sure what else to do? Its going to be a website only thing coz I want it to be exclusive to the site (sounds posher -is that a word...ha ha)
    Stuck,stuck,stuck. :-(

    Commitment update

Have now listed 45 items on ebay so that one is done:j

Have looked into new current account but have read a few nightmare transfer stories on here about A&L so will shelve that for now. Any experiences good or bad, dribblers?:)

Have looked at car insurance and my current provider is still best. Drat

Matched betting still not started though :o

i transfered to A&L from Nationwide a year ago and had no problems-direct debits and everything all set up fine. Quidco cashback took a while but apart from that all hunky dory!

I am loving reading this thread, nearly every day. It brightens my day and fills me with hope. :D

I'm nbot officially contributing, as with my health at the moment, it's a rare day when I am able to do extras, BUT I ma sitll thinking of what I COULD do.

I was wondering, I have done a couple of paintings recently for friends. My most succesful was a protrait of my friend's dog. Lots of folks are saying I should get into doing animal portraits, which I am contemplating.

    What I'm wondering is:
    a) is there a market for such a thing
    b) what people would be willing to pay (again, is it viable)

The paintings would probably be 12x10 boxed canvas, done in acrylics. Any animal lovers here want to give me their opinion?

    Ta dribblers. :)

There is a huge market for pet portraits. I used to do a lot but have backed off from that side of things now.

I'd say you want at least £80 for a painting that size.

Here's what I did to set up. I did a few samples pictures, 1 dog, 1 cat and 1 horse, then I went to my local animal rescue place and asked them if they would advertise my stuff in their reception and that I would give them 20% of each commission. They were very happy to do it and they invited me to have a stall at all their open day events. then I got some A4 posters made showing one of my portraits and some business cards went to all the local vets, told them I was doing portraits to help raise money for the animal rescue and they let me put up the posters for free and left some cards with them. Also I did some smaller posters and put them in the windows of local pet shops.

I can give you more details if you like, I'll help any way I can. Just PM me if you want anything.

MM, if someone wants the one on the card can't you just make it again? Or do you mean they all have to be one-offs (sounds really difficult!).
Alyssa, hope your grandad's not too bad today :)
I'm going to have a bit of a dribble; I'm in a black depression today. It's more a physical thing than a mental one; by this I mean it's like a chemical thing that comes over in waves and I have these negative thoughts that I can't shake off. I've had this for a long time and it was truly awful at first, I used to 'wind myself up' into being very very distressed. Now that i've had kids, have less time to think and worry about useless things, I have got used to it and it's weird, it's like a separate persona or, more realistically, like nausea or a headache that I can't completely avoid but can cope with by remembering that I've been like this before and have got through it. Thanks to this thread I actually feel more determined to get things done instead of brooding and sulking and I am a lot more positive today than I would otherwise have been. So I'm wondering if this would be worth doing a blog about? About having a busy life and having to cope with depression as well. But what do you actually get back from having a blog, I seem to have missed that? I started to do one that was meant to be funny but my depression kind of killed it off; it completely knackers my confidence sadly and I've destroyed things that I've made because of it :(

    Morning all!!

Icckle - that painting is amazing. you have a real talent. You def. could make some money offering that as a service. If you set up a website, get business cards, ask local pet shops to offer your service, contact local vets (do vets have notice boards? if so get a poster up!) ooo - does your local library/village hall do exhibitions? if so, and you have a selection of your work, you could have a display....you get to try and sell your pictures and also sell your service! Visit craft fayres and have a stall....... really jealous of your talent!

Thanks Saucy. I was thinking £60-70 based on the amount of hours it took, but wondered if people would pay that, glad to know it's not a ridiculous amount.

Sorry your pic didn't turn out as you hoped. :( But I know how it is to feel too shy to say something, LOl i struggle to return things.

This is the painting I did for my friend of ehr doggy:

    agree with everything Saucy said!
the artwork is lovely i think there is a huge "pet related" market out there. I've used vistaprint before and they are quite cheap for good quality items - but my only advice is set up a brand new email account somewhere just for vistaprint - as they will send you offers every day! so can be a bit spammy - but i don't complain when i get 100 postcards and 100 leaflets all full colour for just £7.00 something ;)

good luck with it and oh get a blog so we can link to it ;)

thanks for the explanation Saucy re the linking! I should've known that :o

Hi Paula-I'm sorta making a selling point of everything being individual so cant really do duplicates-I actually find this easier as I often make things and then think-I like that but its too much work/expense to do again so I end up with lots of individual things!

R.e the depression-It's definately worth doing a blog-I have depression /anxiety at the moment and its good to read experiences of other people and how they get through it. I had a lot of the negative thoughts, I read on a Forum someone describe it as an 'inner chatterbox' it goes on and on and you cant switch it off. luckily with the help of medication I am now feeling a lot better, haven't felt this positive in years and the chatterbox has gone. I look forward to reading your blog-go on you can do it!!
