Well done Munchki
MMTWGA - I have learnt that by shopping online it not only saves time and hassle but sometimes money as well. You don't have to drag the kids round, find a parking space, battle with trolleys or people, get wet when it rains etc. Well worth the delivery fee.
ALSO I would knock on your neighbour and offer help if only a casserole (cheesy but could be essential to her)
Hales - commitment update
I have been having a think this afternoon about my website, and am restructuring it. I have a plan that I will be putting into action this afternoon and evening, so am hoping it will work.
For anyone wanting to blog or have a website, write about what you like as well as know, otherwise your motivation wont stay.0 -
kez12, what a fabulous total. Well done!
Excited for you munchki.
I've just organised a Scottish themed wreath to send to a dear, old friend's funeral, down South. Died aged 95 after an amazing life, so a very good innings. I still shed a few tears while composing the message.
I've organised my business line and changed my mobile contract, so i'm making good progress through my list.
Keep up the good work!I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -
Does anyone know anything about writing childrens books?
I have an idea (which I think is pretty good, and my 4 1/2 year old loves!) but have no idea what I would need to do ...other than write the book(s) of course!
I did look at some well known childrens publishers but they aren't accepting submissions.
I suppose I would need to find an agent....anyone done that?
My biggest problem is that I see the book as a whole...eg in my head I don't just write it I illustrate and lay it all out lol! Sorry I am starting to waffle :rotfl:
It is one of the things I remembered I wanted to do whilst doing my physco wall and I really feel I could do....if I focused for long enough that is!
Hope everyone is having a good and productive day!! :j). Mostly, don't give in ... I know it is much sited but the first Harry Potter book was rejected by every major publishing house and the vast majority of minor publishers. A lucky encounter with the right person at the right time and in a positive frame of mind led to the phenomenon we now have. Good luck and have fun with it
. (P.S. subtle insertion of something to keep the adults amused whilst they are reading it to their children often works wonders too
)

Hi, I had a bit of trouble understanding your post - you say your friend loves MSE and you want to boookswap with her but only take her most expensive books so you can then sell them on for a profit... But then won't she just read it on here??
try earning other ways as well as there are tons of books on ebay already so a small market for you. also if you buy cheap and resell there's more of a profit and entrepenuerial feel to it than just getting freebies and listing them! just my two pence worth.
She loves MSE but she's not doing this challenge. I think a few of the people who have joined here (I know that's the case for me) have just decided to "pull their finger out". For example, it's not like it's happened overnight that I have a lot of stuff in my house I could sell, but it's only after being inspired by all the motivated (and motivating) people around here that I decided to do something about it.
I'm also trying to buy stuff cheap to resell for more (there are a couple of things I'm working on at the moment but nothing definite yet) but I don't really think I have any area of expertise so most of the time I don't know if what I'm getting is really a bargain or not! But I'm sure I'll get better as the year goes on!0 -
My first suggestion would be to write something that you have successfully entertained your own children with ... so already a big tick there. I would also get on and plan it and get a first draft down and start to develop some of the illustrations you have in mind. Before you know it you will be in a position to try and promote something tangible rather then simply an idea. Whilst doing it also think in terms of how it might work in electronic form as this may be an avenue to promote and sell it outside of the mainstream if the publishers prove difficult. Any new story lines that pop into your head for your characters whilst doing the book, rough out simple, one page drafts to help form the basis of future books in the series (I have decided for you that it will be a successful series of children's books
). Mostly, don't give in ... I know it is much sited but the first Harry Potter book was rejected by every major publishing house and the vast majority of minor publishers. A lucky encounter with the right person at the right time and in a positive frame of mind led to the phenomenon we now have. Good luck and have fun with it

Eyesparky - thank you thats brilliant!
I know I need to just 'do it' but I always like to know what happens next and so put it off as I don't.....I am one of the worlds best at thinking and not doing!
It is aimed at quite young children at the moment, and I could actually see that it could work as a tv series as well on something like Cbeebie. It is actually quite educational in a learn about the world kind of way. I do need to work out the main character as at the moment my son knows him as a dog called Spot! (IT was the first one that came into my head when we started doing these stories at bedtime...he put me on the spot (no pun intended!). But obviously I know that Spot has already been done...and the main idea is what he does....and it would be a series!
Right tomorrow I will spend my free time giving it more thought and start getting something down on paper! Thank you!Life is a work in progress0 -
Ive finished the ten articles for the commitment board, OH went out and then reception rang saying there was a viewing and could they use my flat. Rush to clean up creme egg, then the guy doesn't really look around anyway, won't look at the bathroom, etc.
Then get told they need to show an 'important person' around tomorrow at 7.30am, so cleaner will check its clean at 7am. Not sure where I am expected to go?
Have been completely unproductive apart from that. Before 1pm parcel is no where to be seen, phoned company and was told it was sent 1st class royal mail but they promised me next day...am so confused, and stressed, and unmotivated.
The children's book idea sounds fab, something I'd love to do but I can never think of a decent enough idea, lol.Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0 -
What a great thread! Very motivating.
Has got me back into EBay - made nearly £130 this month from selling things from around the house - and still got the loft and garage to work through ...
Got me into BB too - made £52.50 there - mostly from £5 wins and then using roulette to get up to the £20 withdrawal limit (thanks to Jamespir for that idea!)
So could my total for the month be added please - £171.88. :j
My next "thing" is selling my old gold (another great idea from here!) - Hatton Garden Metals seems best at £8 per gram today. My OH has taken into jewellery shop today, and they were only offering £5 per gram. Definately worth looking into - a lot of my things were broken ear-rings (or where I just have one), and necklaces, etc.
Could I also add the following for my monthly commitments please (will hopefully make me do it!).
List at least 10 items per week on ebay
Finish sorting out best options for old gold
Read up on Match Betting (again!) :A
Thank you all !0
