  • Really nice to see everyone today and the adorable babies too. Unfortunatley, because I was sat in the middle of the bench and Liam decided to have a sleep (so unlike him) I was unable to escape to the other end - sorry!

Dora - thankyou my lovely, your are very generous and the clothes are fab!

Jam- gorgeous photos, worth every penny. Guess where I'm going on Sat? I have warned hubby about the cost!

Fitz - Where did Holly go?

Searchie - Jayden was fab today! Thanks for keeping Liam entertained in the car. I pulled in and gave him a bottle and he went to sleep AGAIN!!!

3 - thanks for the sling, it's great.

Have you managed to use it comfortably? Beenie (I think!) got the same one from some other faries and wasn't getting on with it. Any tips?

Today was fab! Lots of very cute babies (and mums!)

Lots of lovely babies and lovely mummys today.
Benjamin does indeed have hair - but not much. :p But he does have double the number of teeth that V has. :(
I got cuddles of ickle tiny Jack, and off big chunky Jayden (he feels heavier than V!) I got big gummy grins from Ed and toothy grins from Daniel, and had a lovely chat with Christopher about skiing and his pal Violet!
We were slightly outnumbered by smelly boys - V & Charlotte were the only girlies. (I love the pics JAM)
Thanks SM for travelling all that way, and NMS for helping her to.

No pics - we forgot! :( But I did have my camera in my bag.

 At your cheeky OH Glam.

Elle I love that pic of the tummy rolls! It looks like mine - but cuter! :(

Earrings I think its really cruel in babies. :( I told L she could have hers done when she was between junior school and secondary, so 11. She'd started nagging about it at 6, she was the only girl in the school without them apparently (just like she's the only girl in the school without a mobile, her own laptop, a pony & a holiday home in Barbados!) But, Ex-oh took her Christmas shopping when she'd just turned 7 and got them done! I suppose it wasn't too bad as she was old enough to know it hurts, and was able to clean/look after them.

I was convinced V was a lefty like OH, but now she's using her right hand more for using her spoon and pressing buttons.

AHA!!! You won't be laughing when you roll up and you have got MFD and Benjamin in the cabin next door :rotfl::rotfl:

Ha ha. Wouldn't that be great...a MSE holiday (that's not actually very MSE!)
  • Hi all
    Hope your all ok.
Well I'm off tommorrow, unfotunately I missed out on the seaside place so now i'm going 44 miles away in the other direction, not too pleased but there nothin I can do about it.
DS1 is staying at my mums until friday so he can say goodbye to his school teachers and freinds, his teacher is even going to buy some cakes for him to give all his friends, how sweet, he's also got a hearing test on Thursday so Mum is going to take him.
The baby is supposed to be having 1 hours supervised contact a week with his Dad, dont know how thats going to work when i'm 45 mins away, I cant afford to drive there and back once a week, plus I'm not even allowed to come back here!
Oh well, I've got bigger fish to fry lol
On the plus side, my room will have an en suite bathroom, so at least we dont have to share, and also, there is a 6 month maximum stay, the woman said most people are housed within 4 months.

Weezl, don't know if this will mean anything to you but the ARM midwives are pretty unanimous in thinking that delayed clamping/cutting and natural 3rd stage is the 'best' way
I'm glad you mentioned that as I'd already forgotten!

For Weezl (or anyone else who happens to be interested:
    Delayed cord clamping/cutting:
The placenta supplies oxygen to the baby via the umbilical cord until the baby's syatem takes over. If you cut the cord immediately then it can become necessary to assist the baby to start breathing whereas if their oxygen supply (via the umbilical cord and placenta) is still available then you can wait for their system to take over naturally and you don't have a period of time with no oxygen supply to the blood. (Obviously I am talking about a birth without other complications - there are plenty of reasons why particular circumstances might make it necessary to clamp and cut the cord immediately.)

The baby's blood is circulating between the baby and the placenta via the cord. By immediately clamping and cutting, the baby is deprived of blood which would otherwise have ended up in the baby's system if left longer. The reduced blood volume increases the risk of iron deficiency anaemia as some of their iron stores are lot with the blood they lose.

Allowing physiological cord closure allows physiological placental transfusion and it seems sensible to allow this to take place rather than interfering.

    Physiological third stage:
Active management of the third stage was introduced (IIRC) in the fifties. A trial was started but never completed as they decided to just start doing it with everyone ast standard. The main purpose is to avoid post partum haemorage(sp?). However, active management increases the risk of retained placenta. Syntometrine does not need to be given immediately so it is perfectly possible to wait and just give it if blood loss seems to be excessive rather than give it by default. (Of course giving it immediately by default is more convenient than monitoring everyone and then just giving it to those who need it which is probably why it seems to be standard in hospital.) Syntometrine can have side effects so it seem better to only have it if necessary. Another disadavntage of active management is that they will almost certainly want to clamp and cut the cord immediately if they are doing it.

There's more information here on homebirth.org.uk.

*whispers* I actually want a lotus birth next time. *runs away*

Yay for a fab TC meet! :j Who was in charge of group photo? ;)

Jamie's eyes and nose were running this morning so I called the surgery and the nurse cancelled his jabs. We're scheduled for Monday now.

We also have tooth number 12 :D:D

I didn't get my ears peirced until I was around 14 and it hurt like hell! :o. There is no way I would let Poppy have hers done until well into her teens :). I hardly ever wear earrings but did so on Friday evening whilst out with DH. I'm pretty sure I had to re-peirce them! _pale_. Did anyone else do the £25 Hot Diamonds codes a while back on Grabbit? I waited for their half price sale and got the earrings free!

Glam, this probably shows alot about me but I would dine like a queen at lunchtime and leave DH a tin of (value) soup and a bowl on the table! You do so much and are always making lots of fabulous meals that I'm very annoyed on your behalf :o.

    xx

Yeah but I'm too much of a softie! Thanks for saying I make fab meals, I plan to whack something in the slow cooker tomorrow and just hope it's OK!

My plan is to spend a good week, completely gutting the dining room, our bedroom and nursery and just piling up all of OH's crap into big storage containers and dump them in the conservatory (his space!), buy a wardrobe for our bedroom so that our clothes aren't spread between the wash bin, WM, TD, washing basket or on our backs! :o That way I will be more organised so housework will be easier for all involved!

OH is a huge hoarder and I have stacks of shredding to get through so most of the stuff in this house can be binned!

I think I'll try and get up before J in the mornings and have an hour whip around every morning.
we didnt manage a group photo .. we forgot :o x

MFD did mention it but JAM had left so we didn't think we should!

Bruno - I like your new avvy!

Fitzio - where did Holly go in your avvy? I noticed it earlier!

Sami - a tooth?!! But Ed was sooooooooooooo happy! I have a b00gery baby and he doesn't even have any teeth!

Right, I really am off now! Oh I came on cos my admin girl in work just had a little boy, 6lbs 12ozs!
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Where does the time go?

Hi DK - :T you're finally going but  its not where you wanted. Do you know the area you're going to?
How is the contact for Ex/Ds supposed to work? You can't be expected to travel all that way, and Ex can't come to you?

  • DKAM - sorry you didn't get the area you wanted, pleased though that you're getting sorted. How lovely is DS1's teacher. Is there someone you could speak to about the supervised contact and how it's going to be arranged.

Q: When did you move from using non-bio washing powder and sensitive fabric conditioner?

I'm still using them and requests are being made to use the Easy-Iron stuff.
