  • At some point elle you need to start gearing him up to eat the kind of food that you would normally eat. I wouldn't give Benjamin lumpy mash because I wouldn't give it to anybody else!

Keep your mash as you like it and use the jars to determine the size of the lumps of veg he can tolerate (or try a bit bigger, you never know ;))

Crying, refusing to close his eyes, laughing, sticking his fingers up my nose, licking my face, putting his hands in my mouth, covering my eyes and playing hidey boo with himself, generally being very cute but simultaneously very frustrating because he is very tired.

We will get there. And thankfully he mostly sleeps once he does go down. I think it might be a separation anxiety thing because he doesn't bother with anyone else.

It sounds like hes just trying to squeeze a last bit of Mummy time from you, especially if hes struggling to stay awake when hes carrying on.
Have you tried taking him up half an hour earlier so he can get his wee cheeky one on one time with you before you are getting stressed about getting him down IYKWIM?

I don't want him to eat the processed crap I eat! :rotfl: Must start eating better sometime very soon! :o

He's okay with petit pois and sweetcorn sized bits now, and had bits of chicken slightly bigger than that yesterday but wasn't too sure of it. I'm thinking about the sweet potato and butternut squash - do I carry on mashing that or cut it into smaller bits? It's not helped by the fact we have to boil it for ages to get the bad-for-kidneys things out of it too so it's very soft and easy to mash

  • Hi All, I'm back what did I miss?

MFD, won't you be giving Benjamin cows milk by then? I took a bottle through customs (coming back) they didn't make me taste it. Be prepared to practically strip off though, we had to empty our pockets, fold the pushchair, take watches/belts off, shoes off and be patted down all whilst holding Ello and reassuring Millie that it was OK, (OH was nowhere to be seen, he always bleeps at security plus tattoos and piercing seem to get customs guys all excited) so I had the kids on my own at that point.

Elle, we're using the 7month Heinz mums own jars which have random lumps and she is taking them fine. But when she gets what we are having she gets it like we do. Today she had tattie soup with the veggies cut a bit smaller and bread for lunch then at dinner time she stole some of my toast and some egg yolk from my fried egg (it was cooked, I don't like runny yolks gadz!).

So she will take a range of textures. Sometimes she gags, sometimes she spits it out, sometimes you find a bit of carrot she's been saving for later down her top.

Only thing you may have to watch for it that he will probably eat more of the mashed stuff than off the sliced stuff (eg cooked carrot sticks) just because of missing his mouth and what not. Is he feeding himself finger foods?

Just go with your instincts. I'd hate lumpy mash tattie too, yuck!

ETA, I'd try and make some sticks from the sweet potato and butternut squash as well as some mash. Probably the SP will cut into sticks better than the BNS, unless he is allowed it roasted??

Just stop giving him sweet potato and butternut squash *shrugs shoulders*

If you don't eat it...why bother giving it :o It serves a purpose as a good weaning food but I dropped it as soon as Benjamin started eating properly. We will have sweet potato once in a while but I wouldn't buy it just for Benjamin any more (although I don't much shop specifically for Benjamin any more, other than to make sure we have lots of fruit in!).

But then we eat quite healthily most of the time (honest guv!!) lots of fresh fruit and veg at least!

I intend to swap him onto cows milk, he has some now (although never in a bottle). But I thought that milk in Tenerife probably won't taste the same as over here so was going to use formula until we get back. At least that way it will taste roughly the same (made with bottled water).

I missed you!! Why didn't I know you were going? Am I just shoite?

Tia, nope, he seems to completely avoid feeding himself  He'll happily eat anything if I hold it for him but doesn't want to hold it himself. Same with his sippy cup - drinks out of it fine but won't hold it himself. He'll put toys, clothes, my hands, his hands to his mouth and chew on them no problem, just not food - it's like he doesn't realise he's allowed (polite before his time, that's his trouble! :p).

We seem to have gone through a lot of different brands and age ranges to be able to find anything with any lumps in it. Two out of three 10mth Plum pots barely had any lumps in and were just the same consistency as the mash I made him. At least tonights Hipp 10mth jar has something recognisable in it!

ETA: No, he's not allowed it roasted (potassium and phosphates are water soluble so have to boil it in water to get those out of it - so says the dietitian and kidney doc) :)

Weird, I thought that cows milk would most likely taste the same whether it came from spanish cows or english? Would formula taste different depending on the different water its made up with?

Ello has been on cows milk since I stopped BFing anyway so wasn't something I had to think about.

I said I was off on holiday, don't know if I said when though.
