Just for you0 -
Heard that a journo 'accidently' dropped an ipad while testing during the show and it wouldn't reboot afterwards.
So its well built then.0 -
Yes. The text, icons and general UI of Windows on a netbook are just too small to comfortably read. If the Ui was designed specifically for that size of screen, it would be much better, but it isn't.
Just change the size of the text and icons, not that much of a problem.
Relying on HTML 5 is just gimping the device, it's going to be many years before it's even recommended let alone a standard that can have any inertia behind it to seriously contend with Flash or Silverlight.
Looks like nothing more than some shiny shiny that the devoted will empty their wallets over.
Me, I'll stick to my netbooks. Mine certainly doesn't suffer from any of the problems touted when you consider from pressing the power button to being at the desktop it's around 15 seconds.0 -
I'm far from being an Apple fanboy (I've never owned an Apple product and the only one which has ever come close to appealing is the Touch and in the end, it wasn't quite interesting enough to buy), but this does look promising. I do use a netbook a lot (I'm on my second Eee), but this looks potentially more flexible, easier to use and more portable.
What don't I like? I think the screen resolution could have been higher (the Sony Vaio P series manages higher res on a smaller screen), or (or even and) the form factor slightly smaller for portability (somewhere between the iPad and the Touch - 6" ish?). And I suspect (although I'm not certain) that the storage still won't be expandable and if so, that's a major faux pas.
I think I like the idea, but have some reservations about the execution. I'll wait for some unbiased reviews and for UK pricing, then see whether I want to think about it or not. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

Size of the surround is very disappointing imho - not as impressive as apple products usually are.
I didn't see the whole thing yet, so can someone tell me - how did he type on the thing? Did he hold it in one hand and type with the other, put it down and use both hands or hold with both hands and type with thumbs like you would on the iphone?0 -
The funniest thing is Apple's marketing. Genius in a way...Erm well we don't know where this actually fits, so we've invented a new genre of hardware especially for you. And since there's nothing in our new genre apart from our iPad, you obviously need it now!
If it had a dual core Atom, USB port, an HDMI port, an SD card slot and actually ran a real, UNRESTRICTED operating system it would be awesome.
And from the looks of it, it's still controlled by iTunes. Want pics on there..copy them to PC, add to iTunes and sync. Want movies on there..find an app that will convert your movie format to iPad format (because heaven forbid Apple actually make one), convert movie, add to iTunes, sync. Ad nauseum. I can just about put up with it on my iPhone, but on a device which is better for pics and movies it would drive me crazy.
Want to take the SD card out of your camera and show pics to people...Buy the optional accessory!! If that will even achieve that without syncing with iTunes of course.
Pretty pointless from where i'm sitting. If i'm at home at want to watch films or browse the internet i can do it on my 42" LCD. If i want to read a book...er...i read an actual book. If i am travelling and in a situation where i have so much travel time i can watch a film i will 99% of the time have my laptop.
And how will iPhone apps work. Not sure how you're going to play the games that require two hands on it for instance with a piece of kit that big.
Nice try. C-0 -
As above, it won't replace my laptop, TV or the book in my bedside drawer.
Will the average working person get time to use it during their working day?
I can see those who would buy a bin bag if Apple made it fork out for one and those who have the dosh and get it just because they can/want0 -
One of the more interesting things about the iPad is the fact that Apple have produced their own chip for it. Presumably the A4 will be in the next iPhone and iPod touch as well. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
