You should always keep your receipt and not take advantage of B&Qs generous returns policy which isnt so generous anymore becausae of people like you and the dodgy people that really do take the mick.
If it was bought before they changed their policy then there is a very good argument to say that the right to return has been contractually incorporated.0 -
on my last project, i confidently purchased several fittings, "knowing" that i could return the unused ones, like all non professionals, it saves me 5 trips to the shop to get the correct one. time to return the unused £15 fitting. cant find the receipt (amongst over £1000 of b and q receipts) no worries, credit is fine.
Except of course, no receipt, no credit. How am I taking the mickey?
The product is still wrapped, clearly from bandq. Had I been aware of the new policy I would not have overpurchased in the first place, and yes I would have tried to keep track of this precious receipt. (I have over 50 various receipts this month alone tho...)
This means I am motivated to go anywhere but B and Q in the future. I feel ripped off for £15 quid, and there is no way restocking that item could cost the store that much!
A major benefit of real shops is the "ease" of returning stuff that is unsuitable. I will be shopping for my stuff online more often.
Incidentally, whilst I was in the queue, a woman was returning a used roller and used spare because they were "too heavy". but hey, she had her receipt, thank goodness she wasnt trying to take the mickey like me, eh!0 -

No receipt = item could have been stolen. Surely you can see their point of view on that ?0 -

Never mind the fact that you had no proof you had purchased the items and could have stolen them! (I doubt you did but the point remains)
Did you have your other receipts on you? If so then I am surprised that they didn't offer you a credit note as a goodwill behaviour but if you got a customer service representatitve and not a manager then you cannot blame them. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Most high-street retailers require a receipt for return of unused goods. B&Q where an exception there not any more.theotherhand wrote: »Incidentally, whilst I was in the queue, a woman was returning a used roller and used spare because they were "too heavy". but hey, she had her receipt, thank goodness she wasnt trying to take the mickey like me, eh!
B&Q have a satisfaction guaranteed on all there own brand products you can return them for what ever reason you like. As long as you have a receipt.0 -

Only recently at my BandQ I was given a replacement item, even though I had already binned the original packaging and it was 45 days later.
No Problemo!
Cheers mate but it happens - receipt gets binned by mistake by the missus or whatever.
Personally I think they should take returns if the item is completely sealed as new and can be resold - I had this recently with B&Q branded wallpaper. They wouldn't take it even though it was sealed as new - this is just poor customer service IMO as most other shops would do this.
From a customer relations point of view it's bad because they'll lose some - we have Wickes and Homebase all in the same street here so I'll just go there first in future. B&Q isn't a monopoly by any stretch of the imagination
Anyone know if I can get the authorisation code from the credit card company and give them a proof of purchase that way?0 -

Yes, I regularly shoplift 5 large rolls of B&Q branded wallpaper because they fit under my T-shirt so easily
TBH the manager seemed to be being a bit obtuse about it all so I asked for his name and the head office number - rang the number given with no reply which makes me think it was BS - has anyone got the current customer relations number for B&Q?0 -
Unles you're returning a item as faulty, the store can ask for a receipt and ONLY accept the receipt.
However, its always worth asking that if you can provide POP, will the refund you for any unwanted items. But this would be at their discretion rather than something you are entitled to.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
