  • thanks, glad I'm not in business anymore with all thisd internet taking over the market. I felt I had to stick up for Neil at net66 because he always looked after us for printing and with our website. I'm not up to date with the internet these days, glad I'm not the way it sounds aswell. It's all internet these days, at least its interesting & a good tool that everyone can share opinions on places like here aswell.
    thanks all

  • Had a cold call of this company, and actaully glad this company got in contact. They have built me a small website and optimised it and seems to be working well, they wernt pushy as the other poster mentioned and offerd me a mony back gurentee, Im sure if i studied what they do i might get somewhere, but i am computerphobe and wanted someone to do it all for me.

resubmit you to the search engines on a monthly basis to keep the campaign buoyant and keep you up to date with monthly reports

That isn't good practise, resubmitting your site for inclusion on a monthly basis can be viewed as spam.

If you have submitted your site say to yahoo and it isn't included say after 3 weeks, then i can understand resubmitting but I'd rather find out why.. Aka time consuming .

I've also got a cold call off this company, wasn't really looking for anything at the time but I heard them out and it sounded pretty good. I'm one of them very sceptical people so I was very wary about it, but they are like Ronseal, does exactly what it says on the tin. As it's a new-ish business they were a little slow but they weren't pushy whatsoever and were happy to help out, other companies in the past have just been out to get my money. I'd recommend net66, even though I don't really know what goes on behind it, it seems to work :P
  • how did you get out of your contract with them?
  • Guaranteeing front page with google is pretty pointless. Your only focussing on one key word. Our site attracts about 1500 visitors per month (good for our industry) and these come from 300 different key terms every month. We spend £20k per annum on optimisation through a partner we know and trust. I have recently set up a deal with them where the amount we pay them is based on the number of enquiries the site delivers over £1k in value. Deliver 100 enquires per year they receive £10k, deliver 200 enquiries or more they receive 20k.

When you first create a website you are sandboxed. Giving good rankings for searches to your site. Unless you are getting regular clicks to it, you will quickly disappear from page 1.

Here's a little guide I created for another forum years ago, maybe a bit old now but gives you an idea.

There is no Fast and Easy way to reach the top of the list on Search Engines it takes many weeks or even months! If you don’t have the time and patience to read this then you certainly won't have the patience to do the things needed to help yourself improve your website and rankings.

Lets start with the most Basic ways to improve your website.

    Meta Tags
Meta tags are a collection of words that refer directly to your website. For example if you sell plastic cups you would use the following examples. plastic cups, plastic, cup, disposable cup, cups, cheap cups, and so on..

Meta tags help Search Engines define your website so it can be found and categorized by search engines. This used to be the only way search engines could work out what your site was about, unfortunately it was abused to much in the past and is now being used less and less by search engines. It wont harm your website to have Meta tags as long as you use words directly linked to your website content. It may harm your site if you failed to use Meta tags or use inappropriate words.

    Keywords
To replace meta tags most Search Engines now use keywords, this is a collection of words similar to meta tags but the words are found in your website content not hidden in the coding. The keywords need to be in nice paragraphs and easy to read by people and not just a LIST of words. It is best if you can find 3 or 4 GOOD keywords to use in your content and try to get these keywords up to about 7% density but make sure it is nice to read and as I said above not just a list of words.
You can check your keyword density with one of the many free keyword checkers on line. This is a personal favorite of mine.
    http://www.webconfs.com/keyword-density-checker.php

    Content is King
The more content your website has the longer people stay on your website and if you update it with regular new content you will get more regular return visitors and this will help you up your ranking. Google suggest 200-1500 words per page + pictures and other media is suggested.

    IN-bound links
Links from other websites related to your website improves your ranking with many of the different search engines. But try not to get links from sites that have nothing to do with your content and avoid BAD links from sites that promote spamming or misleading information as this can work against you.

    OUT-bound links
If you have in-bound links it is recommended that you link back to the site to show it is a reciprocal link.

    Spelling & Grammar
Many websites slip up on bad grammar and bad spelling this reduces your ranking more than people think.

    Fonts & Color
Try not to use to many different fonts on 1 page, and make your background & text colours work together so it is easy to read.

    Media

Files such as flash, music, video, pictures are welcome additions to most websites but do not FORCE people to listen or watch anything as soon as they arrive on your home page, give them the option to start and stop it if they want to and keep picture files small so they load faster.

Remember each search engine does things a little different so while you maybe listed 1st on MSN (they get their data from yahoo) you may not be listed 1st on Google as Google is more popular and harder to reach the top.

I hope this basic information will be useful to some people and try not to get drawn into fake sites that promise to do all this for you for a FEE most of them are just after your money & email address.
And remember it takes TIME so have patience….

Y'know I'm sick and tired of having to see pointless "informative" posts from SEO guys giving mostly OLD information.

For those that don't know, Google is a constantly changing search engine, this means that not all techniques stay the same. Why? Well we all use google don't we (well most of us)? Because the results we get are RELEVANT to what we want to find.

The last thing anyone needs is to go back to the search engines of the internet stone age (full of cr*p and !!!!!!).

Yes, I'm an SEO myself - freelance actually. I had it all. Snake oil companies that tarnish our jobs and idiot clients that want results yesterday with single keywords (no matter how much you try and tell them how long it will take otherwise!) and they come to places like this and scream about scammy people and companies without just listening in the first place.

    So:
Here's a little guide I created for another forum years ago, maybe a bit old now but gives you an idea.
Please PLEASE PLEASE STOP giving information that's old
    Meta Tags
Meta tags are a collection of words that refer directly to your website. For example if you sell plastic cups you would use the following examples. plastic cups, plastic, cup, disposable cup, cups, cheap cups, and so on..

Meta tags USED to help and I know you said in the keyword section that they aren't used much anymore, but the way you wrote this can be seen by other people as real confusing!

This is a personal favorite of mine.<link removed>
Which sucks....yeah sure it has links pointing to it and its a high page rank....blah blah blah

It sucks because the keyword cloud is also picking up the page title WHICH IT SHOULDN'T DO!! The point of the cloud is to pick up on body text - helpful for keyword prominence.
    Content is King
It is in a lot of ways, but since there is so much sh*t on the internet, you now need to promote that text. Unmarketed Content only goes so far
If you have in-bound links it is recommended that you link back to the site to show it is a reciprocal link.
Seriously....SERIOUSLY...Are you REALLY suggesting that reciprocal links are the in thing?? They haven't been for years because IT GOT GAMED!!! If you want reciprocal it's fine IF they account for a very little amount within your total link profile (total links pointing to you!)
    Spelling & Grammar
Many websites slip up on bad grammar and bad spelling this reduces your ranking more than people think.
Not necessarily, it usually hits your traffic more than anything else. No one wants to see a badly written site. Oh and traffic != rankings before you start. You can get traffic from a variety of places...like facebook...
And remember it takes TIME so have patience….
This is why seo exists. People/businesses don't always have time to devote to websites and in this day and age you NEED to spend that time with optimisation on and off the website. We freelancers and companies offer that service, we know what is best and yes there are some bad companies out there but I've checked out net66's back links (and I KNOW when a company is bad when I can see their portfolio and it shows spammy link text pointing to them or their sites are badly done, in general). Their stuff is quite decent, much better then most I've seen.

    [Edit]:

Sorry, I forgot to point out a couple of other things.
Unless you are getting regular clicks to it, you will quickly disappear from page 1.
This is the biggest amount of BS I've ever seen. That'd mean, all I'd have to do to rank well on page 1 is to pay people to click on mysite.com every day and wait for over 10 seconds before navigating to another site - this will mean that your bounce rate won't be affected. Again this is a gameable tactic that doesn't work. This is why links to your site are needed to show "votes" to how popular your site is!!
It is best if you can find 3 or 4 GOOD keywords to use in your content and try to get these keywords up to about 7% density but make sure it is nice to read and as I said above not just a list of words.
WOW. That's a lot of text....you'd have to write well over 600 words to get that type of density! I usually recommend half that. No one needs to write an article...I've seen sites with far less text ranking over this amount. A massive amount of keyword density isn't needed, just as long as the distribution of those 3-4 keywords is spead evenly across the page/paragraphs.

I think you need to calm yourself down namco. Sounds like your not getting much work seeing as you are having to promote yourself on MSE.

As I said on my post:
Here's a little guide I created for another forum years ago, maybe a bit old now but gives you an idea.

Now stop touting for business without approval from the forum.
