Breast feeding and breast pads

Hello:wave:
I'm looking for some advice on breast pads....
I'm expecting my 2nd baby and plan to breast feed, I breast fed my first little one but had *ahem* very leaky breasts, I seemed to be constantly wet. :embarasse
I found that cheap breast pads did virtually nothing to stem the tide and used the more expensive one (the ones that come individually wrapped, tommee tippee I think) Even with these I seemed to need at least 2 in each cup, changed each feed.
Does anyone have any advice? Either on cheap but effective breast pads ( I spent a fortune last time!) or on the washable ones, are they any good? or any handy tips on how not to leak!

Been a while since I stopped breastfeeding but I found the Johnson and Johnson ones to be really good - as you say, cheapos are a false ecomony.
Like you I was errr lucky to have a good milk supply and I never had any daytime accidents with them. The only time I leaked (and then it was a handful of times) was at night when I had had them on for a good few hours.
Congrats on the pregnancy and I hope you have a healthy happy bubba:D0 -
I was just about to say the same thing. Tried them all and Johnson's were definitely the best.0

I used the J&J ones in the early days too, sometimes doubled up. When things "calmed down" a bit, I went on to washable ones-I just washed them out in the sink and they dried out overnight.
Good luck!0 -
jeez this takes me back over twentyfive years! I breastfed three kids and vividly remember how i went from twiggy to dolly parton in about 5 minutes when feeds were due.
I leaked too! first rule - darker clothes disguise wet stains!
a good padded nursing bra - sounds weird but the padding did help.
the pads arent large enough! about 3 inches square in my day!
money was short - so i found that the incontinence pads you use on the bed, can be cut into six inch squares and were more absorbent than anything else. also worked out cheaper!
failing that, plastic bags do prevent it leaking to your clothes if you have to use tissues or toilet paper - and as i kept some in changing bag wasnt a hassle.0 -
I had both Tesco's, Boots, Tommee Tippee and washables (some expensive brand - can't recall the name!)
best ones were Tommee TippeeWashables are fine for slow or medium flow but there is no backing barrier between the pad and your clothes and they're not THAT thick... I had a couple of leaks when my milk supply increased and I used them. Personally I preferred the TT ones - they have a plastic backing which does help
I guess you could wear a cheaper one and then a TT one next to your bra - get a cheap one without the backing plastic do it can "overflow" into the TT

Had a nightmare with washable Avent pads - they slipped out of my bra every other day and leave a VBL (like VPL...)
Tried Lilypadz after their recommendations on here, but found them to be useless too - even got extra advice from the manufacturer and followed that to no avail.
I stuck with Savers own disposable! £1 for 40 - not as good as TT for me, but far better than the reuseable options.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

The Medela washable pads are amazing, and much better than any disposable. I could leak like anything (enough to wring my top out and drip milk!) and I've not once had an accident with these pads.
I bought mine here:

I found the TT ones the best. Thankfully I stopped leaking at about 16 weeks so now don;t have to wear them at all.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Can't remember what brands of pads I used as a few years ago, but as I leaked a lot I used to use a plastic milk cup when feeding at home. If you sterilise it the milk can also be stored for future use from a bottle.0

Or breast shells. I got some from Boots but never used them in the end as I didn;t express or use a bottle, but if you want to give a bottle breast shells will collect your milk that would otherwise go to waste. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
