White fillings?

i've always had white fillings, i've only got about 4 i think, but i can't remember and i can't see them to check!
i don't like how the black ones look.0 -
Outlaw, when I've had it done, the dentist has given me an injection in my gum which I've hardly felt, followed by using a drill to remove the decayed/damaged part of the tooth.
I can honestly say I've never felt any pain whatsoever, if that's what you're worried about
I also had an injection in the gum first - although dentist did ask me if I wanted pain relief  ..um ... yes please .. (its only a tiny injection! I am not turning that down!) the injection didn't hurt and neither did the filling. Don't worry about it, it is fine. If you are worried talk to the denist and ask all these questions before hand. I asked lots of questions because I am pregnant - they don't mind.SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0 -
Outlaw - that's an absolute bargain!
At m recent check up I was quoted £100 for 1 white filling! It's a back tooth so I've opted for the black at less than half the cost.

I`ve always had the silver/black fillings, never been offered white before.
BUT looking at the price in my dentists reception i`m glad for the `dreaded` black ones lol!DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I always thought almagam was the metal ones but may be wrong. White ones the NHS only do if they are going to be at the front of your mouth so that they arn't noticeable. I have a white one, no problems, though I'm assuming it won't last as long as the normal onesTo love and be loved is the greatest happiness of existance - Sydney Smith0

repost on health & beauty sub board for the advice on dentists. IME white fillings are at the front and black are amalgam which contain mercury.0

Oh btw everyone its £50 for both the white fillings and £10 for a scale and polish so £60 in total.0

There is nothing wrong with black / amalgam fillings. There are no scientific studies (despite lots of checking) stating, proving or implying any negative consequences from the trqce qmount of mercury in black fillings to pregnant women, children or the rest of the general population.money_saving_diva wrote: »Hi I had a white filling recent. The BDA have also confirmed that it is safe for pregnant dentists to work with the fillings and heir exposure would be greater than most."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0
