  • TooClumsy, ill be there 28/11-5/12 :) haven't a set itinerary yet, but we want to go to woodbury commons, do the cupcake tour, see the Christmas lights switch on, and see the nutcracker. We saw christmas spectacular last year at radio city, but we may possibly go again this year.
  • Hi everyone

Just booked to go to NYC for my OH's birthday in October so I can now join this thread! So excited!

I've been to NYC twice before and always stayed in Midtown so this time I've booked us into the Courtyard SoHo on Varick Street for something a bit different. I've always fancied having more time to explore that area and I think OH will enjoy that too. Has anyone stayed in that area before? Any suggestions for good restaurants and bars around about (I know there are LOADS!)

I've also never been to NY in October before (end of Oct 24-28)...will it be really cold? I've been for new year before and I'm guessing it won't be *that* cold but trying to work out whether I'll need a heavy coat or not!

Very excited about this trip. Even though I've been before it's one of my absolute favourite places and I'm really excited for the boyf to experience it!

It shouldn't be that cold at the end of Oct to need a heavy coat - probably be a little warmer than here. Of course, that said it feels flipping freezing here today, so you can never be 100%!

We go 29/11 - 4/12. Not really got an itinerary as it's my 8th trip and we'll mainly be shopping - hitting the post Thanksgiving sales. For those there at that time, worth signing up on a spare email account for vouchers / special offers for the big stores, or stores you like, although a lot of them will give out vouchers when you go in. I always sign up to Macy's, Century 21, Ann Taylor, American Eagle, Gap, Esprit and Express.
  • M4Rk was thinking of getting the Halifax clarity which has been advised on here? Just wasn't 100% if that was right for us

So glad can tip on card :)

If I had time I would have squeezed a trip to London in before I went

Me too there that week, have booked 'The View' for Thanksgiving evening buffet, cant wait.

Any tips on where to view the parade apart from stay inside and watch it on tv :D?
  • Seems to be a lot of us there at the same time. I'm pretty excited for Black Friday shopping again this year. We're planning to do some online shopping this year too. Last year the a&f on fifth avenue had no sale instore so we ordered online and got 60% off everything.

Booked our second hotel last night. Staying at the Z Hotel in LIC. £505 for a twin room. I know we could have got a cheaper hotel there but we liked this hotel and it also has a free shuttle into the city.

If you want a credit card, so therefore transactions only, then yeah, it will be a good card to go for. I don't recommend it for cash at ATMs, due to interest being charged from the moment it is withdrawn.

The above is true, however, in IME, if you pay it off as soon as you get home the interest is minimal and is usually offset by the better exchange rate :)
