I won a competition and I am going to New York for this NYE :j. I have been trying to look for where to spend NYE. Ive tried looking on forums, read peoples tips and tried looking for events but I was hoping some one on here might be able to help me as I couldnt really find what I was looking for.
I really would like to see the ball drop in times sq, however I really don't want to spend the whole evening waiting outside for it to drop. I have never been to NY before so I have no idea what it is like.
Does anyone know of any restaurants or any events that are taking place actually in times sq where we will be able to go outside and see the ball drop. I am not really having much luck at the moment looking. I've heard there are places with terraces etc that you can go but where they are, that I dont know.
Any help or tips would be great
Thanks:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -

Ah that's great :j
You could try Bubba Gumps, but have probably sold out, but you never know. Have a look on Trip advisor too as there always tend to be reviews about TS NYE..
Would love to be in TS (in the warm anyway) what an amazing atmosphere it would be!0 -

Stayed at the Metro a couple of weeks ago for 6 nights. We had a standard room which was ok but nothing spectacular. Having said that, the double bed was very comfortable, towels etc changed daily and nothing to complain about.
To be honest we just used it for sleeping in (which is obvious) as there wasn't much seating area, but we made use of the 24 hour tea/coffee and went up to the roof terrace where there are great views of the Empire State Building.
I don't know what you get for the extra £100 so it's difficult to comment. Which room were you considering?
We would definitely stay there again and would probably just opt for the standard room as most of the time we were out and about. If you plan to make more use of the room then an upgrade may be appropriate.0 -
Hi Guys,
Could I have some help on planning the timings I should book when dates are released.
Grouping visits to the WTC Memorial and Statue of Liberty Crown Tix together obviously due to the locality, but the last time I visited it was Ground zero, and didn't bother with the SoL, so completely unsure on what time to leave inbetween reservations, and also which to do first.
Thanks in advance0 -
Hello everyone,
I wonder if anyone would be so kind as to cast their eyes over my itinerary for a visit from Saturday 27th October to Friday 3rd November?
I feel like I've gone slightly cross-eyed with all the research and planning I've been doing. Reason is, I'm taking my two sons on my own to NY for the first time (for any of us). I'd really appreciate any more hints and tips as I regularly read through this forum and have found it invaluable. Boys are 9 and 11. Bookish, into science, history, Pokemon (!) Star Wars, Lego. We are all fit and able to walk miles.
Saturday
Land JFK 15.30.
Depending how tired we are, will either:
Air train and LIRR to Penn Station, walk three blocks to hotel
OR
Cab from outside JFK to hotel
(Thinking of this last one, for best first view of Manhattan as we drive in).
Other days (depending on weather)
Day 10 -
Whoops more to come!
Day 1 Highline, Chelsea Market for late lunch, subway to South Ferry, Staten Island ferry at 5pm (so return ferry ride at sunset). Might walk up to WTC site after lunch from Rector Street instead of South Ferry, but I'd rather not, and boys have only asked once!
Day 2 Midtown This is near our hotel, so easy to walk to in a day. Empire State (not going to top. Son has acrophobia). Grand Central Terminal. NY Public Library (and to see the AA Milne Winnie the Pooh toys). Times Square (kids want to go to Toyr R Us, help us all). Rockefeller Centre, Lego store, Nintendo World. Chrysler Building. John's Pizzeria at some point. Macys.
Day 3 Central Park West Side. American Museum Nat Hist. (Possibly) Children's Museum. Dakota Building, Strawberry Fields. Shakespeare Garden. Rowing on Central Park lake.
Day 4 Central Park East Side. Central Park Zoo. Metropolitan MOA. Bloomingdales. FAO Schwartz. Tiffanys.
Day 5 Afternoon only. Lower east side. Little Italy (and lunch here). Chinatown. Walk to Brooklyn Bridge and back. Got tickets for Stomp in the evening.
Morning of day 5 and last day will be for going back to see something we have really liked again.
We'll leave hotel at 4pm on Friday for airport.
Other things we will be doing:
Dinner at La Montanara (Ludlow Street, recommended by Time Out)
Katz Deli
Village Halloween Parade (watching, not taking part...I think) on 31st in evening.
Dinner near hotel in Koreatown at Kim Gang San.
Shake Shack (kids want to do this one!)
We'll be using the subway, we're used to using the tube in London.
Any other hints, tips. Especially science-related must-sees please?
Thanks!

Best thing is the first ferry of the day for the SOL. You then don't get massive queues for the security. I did the pedestal, and then over to Ellis Island, I was back in Manhattan for 11:30. I was travelling solo which speeds things up a bit.
I'd probably plan a midday arrival at the 9/11 Memorial.
