How can browsing that material be random? Why you even bother with this crap I don't know but whatever the reason it's a million miles away from why your local authority did.
Ask them why, they usually have to tell you. But I can save your time by telling you it's because they wanted to know something not very interesting.0 -

You've probably given it - do you read verything before you sign it?
If you've got nothing to hide don't worry - If you have and you live in the borough where I work - get some extra shower gel in - you'll start sweating soon

Do you claim single occupancy discount? I read some Councils are using Experian searches to check people are really living alone.0

How would they be able to prove that from your credit file? Having a financially association with someone proves only that - that you are tied to someone financially. Doesn't give insight to why. Red herring if you ask meCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Hmmm. Interesting but odd thread.
Why do they need permission to do an enquiry?
If you do a confused.com or moneysupermarket.com insurance sweep, that'll register on your file -kinda obvious.
What I didn't know was that if someone else added you to their insurance policy as a named driver, that will also show on your credit file. And there doesn't appear to be anything you can do to stop that (the person who did that to me didn't ask me for permission (or live with me), they were just trying to get the cheapest quote!).
The point I'm making is that certain enquiries don't appear to need your permission (credit checks obviously do) - I'd like to know what the exceptions are...0 -

I've been victim to this - took a lot of explaining. (and yes, I live on my own).
However I think it was just an electoral role thing, since I've no record of the council searching Experian.0
