I doubt it.0 -
If a company searches your credit file without your permission, what recourse do you have? Could you make a formal complaint to the Financial Ombudsman if the company was unable to provide evidence that you had consented to a full credit check?0

I doubt it.[/QU OTE]
Er, hint: Read the thread? Kinda gives you an idea where the topics going...

I guess so, but should they still not ask for permission?'Sometimes you just need to keep your mouth shut':j0 -

I have given them any reasons too search my file. I have never (in any circumstances) been late for payments or been in arrears!
If anything, I have overpaid on serveral ocassions so I really do not understand
It could be an ID Verification.
The Inland Revenue do this now, too. They use an Experian ID system to ensure they are speaking to the person that the caller claims to be, by asking personal questions related to data that my be on your credit file rather than just name and address.
When I called Working Tax Credits last I was asked what my previous address was, and when I took out my bank account via the Experian ID system thing they use. Could be same thing
You can raise a notice of dispute with Experian to get the search removed, but if it's an unrecorded enquire it will have 0% impact on your score.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

We routinely do experian searches of people applying for council housing or people applying for tranfers.
On the applcation form it say we will make any third party checks including land registry and credit agencies - in my borough there is a secton which the applicant signs giving us permission to do this. If they don't sign their application is not progressed.
We recently found someone screaming for a transfer from her one bed flat who actually owns a 3 bed house she is renting out privately - oh and she is also claiming HB on the flat she is renting from the council
I did 60 searches today (yes, we work Saturdays) and combining Experian and Land Registry checks I found 8 council tenants who also own properties...
...Not a bad days work - although I'm sure the Daily Mail would criticise me as a "Town Hall Snooper"
