Stupidspender wrote:Thank god someone sane posts, 100% correct you have to use the hypertext link on priceline.co.uk to take you to priceline.com just as polar says.
Thank you.
i will post the hypertext link below you talk about in your post so every can see its priceline.com you book USA hotels through and not priceline.co.uk!¬
http://partners.priceline.com/hotels/lang/en-uk/itinerary.asp?plf=pluk&refid=PLU&refclickid=PPCOVPgnl
Well then that's the case for European hotels too when you click on the 'Name Your Price' link on priceline.co.uk. You're redirected to http://partners.priceline.com/hotels/lang/en-uk/itinerary.asp?plf=pluk&refid=PLU&refclickid=aff23992 to bid for any hotels.0 -
Look its simple if you want the real cheap deals that USA residents get use the CA and 99999 workaround and bid in dollars, If you would rather pay more then fine.
This thread makes me smile, you post some advice that can be taken or not by the reader, then your bombarded by personal attacks silly childish comments and overall rude posts by the big noses who know it all!
BTW if any ordinary sane person is reading this thread use code TIPO at purple airport parking for a instant 50% discount.
If you are using Amtrak in the US on your stay try code H568 for a buy one get one free seat.
(PLEASE DO NOT START A DEBATE ON THESE CODES) or say another code is better chez or blind man or whatever name you are using today ,like my original post, it is up to the individual to either take the tip or not, NOT YOU!0 -

Before the UK site existed i used priceline.com and priceline.hk (for Asia). They were good because of the bonus deals and vouchers, though they've stopped now.
I've since used the UK site over 20 times to book hotels in New York, Orlando, California, not to mention Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Bejing.
I've compared my winning £ rates with the winning $ rates on informed bidding sites and there's no difference.
In fact, sometimes the exchange rate has made it better to book in £ than $, although the prices should be exactly the same as it's supposed to be a straight currency conversion from the main Priceline engine when you use the UK site (so it depends on the exchange rate that Priceline use i guess)
However, i would be interested in some examples of the US site giving better rates than the UK site. Can you post some examples because i may wish to use the US site if that's the case?0 -

Glennthebaker,
The real cost of using credit cards abroad is the overall cost not the just the headline rake or % fee on conversion as you call it.
For example credit card company ABC has no fee (like nationwide) but use's tourist rates for the actual conversion back into pounds on your statement.
Meanwhile credit card company XYZ charge a conversion of 1.75% but use international money market rates of conversion on their foreign currency transactions.
The difference between the tourist rate and the money market rate is larger than 1.75% so the savvy punter saves money by paying the 1.75 % conversion fee but using a credit card provider that use’s money market rates for converation.
I really don’t know if nationwide use money marker rates or tourist rates for their transactions as I don’t use the card myself .
But I personally would have found out before being a sheep and just getting one cause someone says it the best .
I use a UA mileage plus visa simply for the airmails because the balance is cleared each month and I use a travellers cheque amex plastic card for oversees the last few times I have been abroad simply because I got a free flight to New York for buying a $1000 on it.
Odowchr,
You stick to bidding in £ if your happy with that method.
Although just how you can say that you never paid any less by bidding in $ without buying the exact same hotel room at the exact same time in $ is truly beyond me?
Seems like its only me posting codes and tips ect on this thread these days, the same few people just want to continue to argue and post childish personal attacks that contribute zero to this thread!
Like i have already said either take the tips or don’t but please don’t start arguing over them, move on!0 -

The very fact that the person who shouted me down the loudest on this thread is now advising people on other threads to use ca and 99999 on priceline.com speaks volume of the few petty spiteful souls who turn up on these threads and spoil it for the rest.If you are suggesting I'm plagarising your 'advice' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

You seem to be posting 'tips' that others have posted and claim them to be yours?
And then you slag me off for alledgedly posting YOUR tip:wall::wall::wall::wall:then post nothing whatsoever about saving money?
The bottom line is:
We all want to save money and get the cheapest deal on whatever.
You post your 'tips'and others will post theirs.

How could i claim the ca 99999 was my tip, its not anyone’s tip its a price line workaround.
Like I said if the tips have been posted before then great.
But if my me trying to help (god forbid) and post tips that i have not seen on the thread and it save someone money what’s the problem?
I don’t think you help yourself with posts on my USA saving money thread blindamn , that is just spiteful in all honesty , why the hell would I want to go by chinabus !!!!!! instead of half price amtrak?
But i agree we should all just post tips and then either use them or cast them away>0
