How do you propose to pay off your share?

If I ever ran into debt problems, I suppose I might have to flog off one of my Buy To Lets - they are already up 15% in value since I bought them in May

So long as those gains keep coming, even if CGT rises a bit I'll still be very happy indeed !!

As for sterling's fluctuations, that's the main reason I keep most of my assets in GBP - in order to minimise risk

Still - I sometimes am tempted to sell up everything and stick the lot into a nice speculative, zero yielding asset like gold.

... but then I sober up.

    ;)

I haven't been on here as long as others, but I've also seen a marked deterioration in the debates on here since I joined. It seems that a lot of the older posters have left and the board is dominated by a few prolific posters. I created a thread just last week in the MSE Feedback Board suggesting that this board be moved into the Money Saving Arms as a sub-board so that it might entice a bit of new blood into the debate, but it seemed to fall flat.
    .

DD used to express similar concerns and now you have taken up the mantle, why are you on such a crusade about something that is totally irrelevant to most people ?

Could you post a link to any posts where DD expressed a wish for this site to be moved to Discussion Time? I suspect you won't be able to as he was as opposed to it as you clearly are, perhaps for the same reason? That he, like you, wanted to play "the big man" in a board and both of you hate the thought of the board being open to a wider audience and having influence on the board diluted?

I've expressed the same opinion since Martin first mooted the idea (it's in the sticky at the top of this board). I thought this board was very insular and cliquey when I joined and feel that it is even more so now. It's crying out for new blood that a move to "The Arms" would provide.

Still, we wouldn't want to water down the "Bull gang's" influence now that you're in the ascendancy, now would we? ;)

This forum is just full of the same people spouting the same opinions over and over...

I usually come back every couple days to see if i can gleem anything interesting and in all honesty... you can't. This sub-forum is now just a big bear vs bull fight where the words bias, fiction and opinion pop into my mind...

Its not based on analysis at all, its just vested interest nonsense. I remember when the discussions were more interesting to read.. but now everything turns to personal attacks and 'you only saying this because you regret your decision' type nonsense.

Seriously this entire sub-forum is of no use.

So.. rightly so this post is happy here (its my opinion and helps nobody.. like rest of forum)

Then post comments and articles of interest on this forum. In the same way people abstain from voting then complain about politicians. Participate.

Debate is healthy. Amonst the threads on this forum are lots of good informative posts. In fact by having a forum like this more often or not, articles from different sources get posted up with differing views. This enables people to keep events in perspective.

The media "news" is edited. Truncated for quick consumption. So doesn't give depth to topics.

Personally I have learnt a lot from being on this forum. We all have our own experiences and specfic areas of knowledge. Sometimes its difficult to comprehend a point when written in a conversational style. But over time and by asking questions of others its possible to to get at least a basic level of knowledge.

I'm always happy to be corrected, or change my view. Nothing stays the same for ever. Tomorrows events are the ones that will change the course of history.

Didn't realise there was a Bull gang (or more accurately "Bull herd"), but no one tells me anything, in any case!!

Good to see the admission from another uber bear, that the HPC muppets have lost, and that the market recovery is going from strength to strength

harry is more bullish than bearish

but i never knew there was a bull gang either - is it a secret society that has secret meetings and worships HPI to stop 'normal' people buying a house

Thanks chucky. Yes, I found it rather amusing to be described as an 'uber bear'. :)

I think we all know that there are two rival gangs on here 'the bulls' and 'the bears'. It's so West Side Story in here some days. Another good reason why some fresh blood is desired.

I honestly cannot understand why people would be adverse to a discussion board being moved to a discussion area, except due to the 'dilution of influence' reason I posted earlier. Surely most right-minded posters on here would prefer a wider base of contributors? I come on here to get a cross-section of facts and opinions to help me make sense of the economy, what I am increasingly getting is VI wrapped in a thin veil of 'fact' and playground style arguments.

There are some great contributors (we all know who they are) but often their posts are lost in the storm of nonsensical postings. Indeed, some have already left, possibly due to this fact, and the remainder seem to be posting less frequently.

    It's a shame.

    I agree.

The only reason this board was created was to keep the nonsense out of the house buying, renting, selling board.
