Getting a BT phoneline reactivated

I'm in the process of getting broadband in my home and was planning on going o2 and a BT phoneline.
I've checked the phone scoket and it says it's a telewest one.
I don't want to pay £127.99 to have this changed to a BT one, does anyone know if theres a way I can have this done for free? If not, I'll probably have to go with a different ISP.

Telewest is what is now Virgin Media-you have a cable service. The service won't be changed, if you do not have an original BT line to your property then you will need a new BT line physically installing. The VM one is on an entirely separate network.
OpenReach will not touch or remove the VM installation.
Even with a different ISP you'll still need to pay to get a line installed, so go for the BT offer as long as you can commit for 18m.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Have you checked out what Virgin can offer your broadband and phone wise? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Yes and it would be more more expensive for what I want. Here's the thread discussing it if you're interested.

Correct,
You cannot have an ADSL BBand service on a cable service.0 -

Yes I wondered why you started another thread, don't recall you mentioning being in a cabled area, but didn't read the Whole thread.
As you know distance from the exchange affecting ADSL performance is not a problem with cable. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks.
I started a new thread as everytime I think I have it sorted another problem comes up and I thought it might be kinder to post a new thread dealing with the specific problem rather than ask people to read through my whole saga
I've called BT and they said I may have a BT socket in addition to the telewest one so I'm going to have a hunt around for that tonight.0 -
Does this mean the free installation offer has finished?
Well the girl did say that if I don't have a BT socket I would have to pay to get it installed.
I didn't specifically mention the 18 month contract though as i thought I'd save myself the potential hassle until I've looked for an existing socket.0 -

When I got Virgin installed years ago when it was Comcast I am sure the installer just removed the phone cable from my BT box and put it in the Virgin box?
I checked my BT box and there are no cables running in there now?0
