so annoyed at myself today as Tesco order arrived and it was £58 so more than I had thought (still probably alot less than normal shop though) however freezer is full to bursting and enough in fridge for next 4 nights dinner.

I also slipped badly on my wish for no spend days all week as we were asked to go to soft play this afternoon so £4.80 to pay DD in plus nearly £5 on drinks as they don't let you bring your own on the premises! Grrrrrr £10 on nothing!!

ETA.....how could I forget! Got pin and checked my experian credit report (interestng reading!) It seems there are 2 things against me which is
    1. The fact I still have £13K of available credit??? (I think alot of this must be from store cards/catalogue accounts which have credit limit of £2k on each)
    2. I have had 2 late payments in 12mths.

On the plus side my credit score is 999.......the best it can be! Very ironic!!

A succesful no spend day today as I cleaned and tidied this morning and then had DD's friends round for a playdate this afternoon.

Also did a balance transfer (partial) from Halifax card to Ulster bank one that I have never used, they wouldn't let me transfer full amount so could only do just over £1500 but at 2.9% instead of 27.95% it has to be a good thing??

That is marvellous. Snowball the two debts to see how much interest you will have saved yourself.

And then ring the Halifax and ask them to reduce your limit by £1500. Will make your credit record even better.

Hi Dani, just wondering about your mobile, rang O2 today and my contract finishes on 8th Feb so going to change to payg. Who are you with/what deal etc??

    Howdy.

I'm on o2 and its £10 a month for unlimited texts and then £11 calling credit (they give me 10% back each time I top up)

or you can do £15 for unlimited texts and internet. I think I've just seen them advertising free o2 to o2 calls as well....

I used to be on contract and as much as I want an iphone (man they are sexy....) I cant find a deal as good as this.

Maybe a little outrageous, and not what you desire, but if you are the biggest earner, and go down to half pay after 8 weeks, maybe hubby has to take paternity leave rather than yourself. If this is not appealling to him may help your push to curb his spending . . . .

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • Sky's line rental is £11 per month, a reasonable saving on BT.

A thought, have you tried to see if your income is small enough to get free prescriptions, dental, eyetests, etc?

Get Form HC1 from Chemist and send it in, you may get a pleasant surprise.

    Cheers, HG

HellsGranny - as she's pregnant she'd get a maternity excemption certificate anyway - free prescriptions and dental ;) Midwife will sort the form out - willl last to 1 year after baby's due date :)

  • Just a little thing but when going to Soft Play take your own drinks anyway. I know they don't allow them but I do it. I've 3 kids now and it was getting beyond a joke paying for the drinks. I now pick up a carton of 3 ribenas for 59p or something and smuggle them in in a small rucksack.

Oh and don't beat yourself up about paying a few quid into softplay now and again. Just because you're debt busting doesn't mean you can't treat your little one now and then. :)

    HI,

I just wanted to say that it's probably your late payments rather than amount of credit that are counting against you. I have much more credit available than you on old accounts and I've never been turned down for a card - but I've never made a late payment.

Also please remember your credit score means nothing really. Each lender has their own criteria regarding whether they will lend to you. That's just experian's own score, which has no relation to what lenders are looking at. But still, nice to know they think you're doing alright!

Hi - Just an idea for your hubby's beer consumption - we're currently on a bit of a savings kick and noticed that quite a lot of our entertainment money was going on lager so OH bought a lager Home Brew kit this weekend.

It cost is £25 but should make 40 pints and included the fermentation barrels, thermometers and other bits - it will then cost £12 for the ingredients for the next 40 pints.

We're saving the bottles that we are using in the meantime and will trawl for more bottles on freecycle.

It takes about three - four weeks to brew the first batch, but I'm hoping it will save us a fortune without OH having to 'do without'
