How To Stop Rogue Security Ware

Options
I have noticed quite a few posters having problems with rogue security ware being downloaded onto their computers , are there any prenventative measures you can take to lessen the chance of these downloads happening.

I know avoiding dodgy sites is a start but these rogue programmes seem to be popping up everywhere and not just the dodgy sites also it seems to be happening a lot more looking at posters problems on this forum.

I use Avira AntiVir Personel, Malwarebytes, Windows firewall & routers firewall, If I come across one of these rogue programmes I immediatly diconnect from the internet and then try and close the rogue programme using Ctrl+Alt+Delete and then run full scans.

I was thinking of using Spywareblaster, would this programme be any good to stop these trying to download as I believe prevention is better than a cure or is there another piece of software that would be better.

Many thanks :)

I was thinking of using Spywareblaster,
I have SpywareBlaster installed: extremely light-weight footprint. ;)

    Perhaps also Windows Defender?

Oh, and welcome to MSE :hello:
  • Thank you busenbust.

Will Spywareblaster stop these rogue programmes from trying to download onto a computer then?

Spywareblaster will stop plenty of problems at the source, but as with all security programs ~ its only as good as its updates

For me it's not a case of one particular program saving my bacon, so to speak;) I very much believe in installing an anti-virus/-malware program that works in conjunction with the rest of your security suite...multiple levels of defense -.

    HTH.

Yes you are correct about updating which is very important.

If I downloaded spywareblaster in conjuntion with what I have would that be okay?

As I am using an netbook I would like to use AV/Malware programmes with a small footprint.

^I suspect so; you seem pretty well informed as it is;); I don't much care for Avira, and prefer and trust Avast. Down to you.

    No no

I ment that if they dont know something exists then they cant include it in the updates

No antivirus will ever pick up 100% of all viruses

  • Many thanks for the compliment busenbust.

I'm only well informed because I have read the many threads yourself, aliEnRIK, Browntoa and many others have made here concerning AV/Malware.

Are there any good sites that you/others can recommend where I could learn more about these issues.

    Ah, sorry aLiEnRIK

I understand, that is why it is a good idea to have a combination of programmes to conteract these problems.

I know it is not a good idea to have more than one av running at the same time on your computer but if you have one would be a good idea also to check using a online av scanner as well?

Would using a online scanner conflict with your own av on your computer, if not could you recommend a online scanner/

    Thanks.
