Well sometimes the best advice isn't always the advice you want to hear...

It isn't the best advice is it though?

So now you'd advise i didn't seek my doctors help, and get treatment? I wonder how many other people would agree with this!

I don't know whether you've ever been through depression, but if not, i hope for your sake you never have too. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

    !

In the space of a few posts you have diagnosed yourself via the internet. Decided it is the worst affliction anyone could have and that no one could possibly understand.

not bad going for a few hours.

How do you know? It isn't the advice you want to hear obviously but that isn't to say it isn't the best advice.

Go to your doctor by all means.

Jomo did not say you should not seek your Doctors help and get treatment.

I have to agree with others that from this thread and others you have posted on your main aim seems to be to avoid New Deal especially as you do not snap out of severe depression at the weekends and lapse back into it when New Deal looms. I expect there are others who are not keen on New Deal either but the choice is go or be sanctioned.

Go to the doctors and see what they say

Yes they will probably give you medication but that is not a reason not to carry on looking for work and attending the course.

Hopefully it will give you that little mood lift you need to get out there and find work. You don't need to be signed off ( I have refused this numerous time) just because they are giving you medication

I have suffered depression since being diagnosed at 16 but I have never missed a day at school, uni or work because of it (i'm 28 now). I have my good periods and my low periods. I think what makes it harder to even consider being signed off or calling in sick is because of the type of work- I'm a teacher and I know there will be 30 little people waiting for me and expecting me to be there!!!

I think, once you've done this course, maybe looking into some volunteering might help you (as another poster said). A reason to get up, people need you there, tied in with renewed effort to find a job and hopefully a more positive attitude

Good Luck with it but it sounds like you live with your family so try not to push them away but work with them.

Do you really think that two weeks away from JSA will make any difference, apart from giving you the hassle of a rapid reclaim?

As someone with depression, (have had it on & off since the age of 13) two weeks doesn't make that much of a difference. Months or weeks yes; but weeks, no.

That is my personal opinion, mind.

You never know, the new deal could help you.

You have reached level 60 on the Goldberg scale.

    54+Severe depression

You are having suicidal thoughts. This is a serious warning sign, and you must seek help quickly.

Hi, first of all good luck for the doctors appointment- make sure you tell him exactly how you feel, don't be embarrassed.
I've suffered from depression on and off for years and I totally understand you not wanting to go on the New Deal course , at my worst I was desperatly trying to find ways I wouldn't have to attend my own sisters wedding as just couldn't face it.
In the last few months I have been down again due to problems at work, I am on Prozac and now feel a bit better however I have handed in my notice and am now selfemployed fulltime.I have my own business doing wedding jewellery and also buy/sell on eBay.
This could be an option for you although I'm not sure how old you are? If you are over 25 and work over 30 hours in selfemployment you could be entitled to working tax credits instead of JSA. Might be worth looking into if you can think of a business you're interested in. It need not cost much to set up- simply selling sone of your stuff on eBay could be enough to start- see the £100-£10.000 challenge on the Up your income board for more hints/advice
    Hope this helps .x

You know that first post of yours isn't very considerate is it? I don't know whether you've ever been through depression, but if not, i hope for your sake you never have too. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Maybe i should just cancel my doctors appointment, because it seems you and Dmg are doctors now, yes? No i thought not!

Many of the people who've tried to help you on here have themselves suffered from depression (as I have myself). By trying to avoid New Deal and encouraging yourself to think you have quite severe depression you could be starting on the slippery path that could lead you to wasting years of your life on benefits.

See your doctor, cut back on the jobseeking for a week or so if you can and try to view New Deal as a positive step that will enable you to get your life back on track - as it has for many people.,

What checks are done? Surely you can't just tell HMRC that you work over 30 hours a week selling stuff on Ebay. And make about £10 a week profit. Otherwise everyone would be doing it as max. WTC appears to be more than JSA.
