I found this recipe for German Sand Torte.

However the quantity of sugar is massive:675g!By how much can I reduce this?By two-thirds,I thought =225g?
    Butter is 225g,sour cream 200g,flour 450g.

    Thanks for any comments.:)

Haven't been here for a while but would like some advice. I bought one of these Nordicware Jubilee Bundt pans (large) from Lakeland today at 40% off, it came to just under £20. Its good quality, but I'd like to gather opinions from regular bakers on whether I have paid too much? I can't help but think that Aldi or Lidl will churn out their own versions in due course. Opinions please.

Seems like a good price, I haven't seen it cheaper except maybe in America :) I visit the US every other year and tend to stock up on bakeware there (massively cheaper in some respect and usually there are 50% coupons knocking about :D).

At least you know it will last a long time!

 at the sugar content. I found a recipe with less sugar but it doesn't have sour cream in it (may be less moist I'm guessing): http://bettybakesgermanbreadandcakes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/sand-cake-sandkuchen.html

Alternatively I would use 400g of sugar and leave out about 100g of sour cream. Let us know how it goes :A

I'd also had a look at this recipe.

I've already bought the sour cream, and won't be using it for anything else.

I won't be making it this week though,so time to think about it.

Apparently sandcake is the German equivalent to pound cake, meaning that the flour, sugar, butter and eggs weigh the same. It's strange that there's such a difference with the various weights.

I always considered sand cake to be a bit like Madeira or marble cake without the chocolate half ;)

Well after my baking last week was going to do some more banana cakes to distribute as everyone seemed to like them but got a bit bad news as my grandad has passed away, in pieces and been sorting the doctor, police and undertakers out this afternoon ... was planning on dropping his cakes in tonight ....

Just can't sleep now and not really in the mood to do anything but I know I've got loads to sort tomorrow ... hence mseing to take my mind of it ... x
