permanently switch off Google suggestions

update to ie8 and/or look at the regedit in my last post

Show suggestions: tick/untick - although this problem does look endemic for some users (not myself and I do use Windows 7 too).

Also, click on drop-down arrow, Manage search engines, untick Show search suggestions...just mentioning other ideas here, although - I repeat - from reading the posts here the prob does look endemic for some! (see below).

Houston, we have lift-off!, it appears to be working fine now onFF with no suggestions will try on IE

NO, IE stills throws up suggestions. My head aches now will try again tomorrow.thanks so far.

In regedit, navigate to

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes]

under there, look for "ShowSearchSuggestions" and set to 0

Closed, I have just followed through this (with a clear head, lol) and all went well until I got to the Search Scopes which I double clicked on, but could find no "show search suggestions" so couldn't set to "0".

In my registry it is under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{6E940EFD-D1D6-4720-BA30-A12F5C6AC8CE} The bit in {} may be different on yours but under DisplayName it should Google

Sorry for the delay responding as I posted the original query but not been well. Just to say thanks for all suggestions and to Closed for the solution to change the home page - that has finally worked!

No, it isn't that one. I have 12 sets of long numbers but none match, thanks anyway.

As an aside, the suggestions are thrown up at me irrespective which ever search engine I elect to use
